I've had a religious experience. My new Jack Read Custom P/J has taken me to another plane of existence. This thing kicks my Roscoe's butt and then some. Some many wonderful, useable tones that I can't decide which is my "signature sound."
This bass is all handmade without a single flaw AND way cheaper than my Roscoe. I cannot sing Jack Read's praises enough. If you get a chance to play/own one - do it! (BTW, I don't work for Jack and I'm not a good enough player to even be endorsed by Rogue

I bought a preamp from Jack last December, and I looked at the basses on his webpage. That looks great!
