Tubes: Loud for the size!

Maybe this only for guitar amps, instead if bass amps, but I have noticed the few tube amps I have tested at Guitar Center and Sam Ash were really, really LOUD for their low-wattage. Even a little 4w VOX was causing my ears to ring.

So, what is the deal? How is it that tubes of low watts can be as loud as solid state that is much larger in wattage?

Uurgh... Please be advised that (a) this subject has been covered countless times, and (b) it often ends badly, with opinions running hot all over the place.

Maybe use the "advanced search" tab and the Google field to search on the phrase "tube watts". Then get your popcorn and a nice beverage, and prepare to spend some time reading. :)

Now see, you start with that stuff and the thread's going to get closed. Because now I have to tell you that watts are watts and the previous answer before yours was the correct one. Then you and a couple other people will argue, then we'll argue, then the thread gets closed.
