So why did you sell your Sonic Research Turbo Tuner?

No doubt it is a great tuner, but the Pitchblack I already had is just as quick, half the price, and much easier to read in the dark (read: on stage).

I don't know, Nad, but I found the Turbo Tuner to be quicker, especially on the low B-string, than the PB was. Not night and day, but noticeably. It's why I almost always leave "The Pitchblack would be my second choice" in tuner threads as a caveat now. It's the best tuner below $100 I've ever used, but I prefer the TT.

Then again, visibility isn't an issue for me (yet), but I see no reason why I would ever sell the TT today, and have not had any desire to since I bought it over a year ago.

I'm with nad, I got the Pitchblack and it does the job well though judging by reviews and specs the TT is an upgrade - though I wonder if the readout is as visible.

I looked hard at the Turbo Tuner but the two factors for me were:
(1) I don't change tunings much during sets.

I have a D-tuner for Drop D and long ago when I was in a cover band I dropped every string a half step for a pair of songs (Green Day and Guns & Roses I believe) but not anymore. I just need to tune up before a show and I'm good

(2) Being in California, the added tax made the TT a lot more expensive than the Pitchblack. I still want to try one, but I can't justify the added price when I don't make extensive use of a tuner during gigs.

B-string? What the heck is that, some sort of guitar thing? ;)

Yeah, there's that. I picked one up at http://www.alpha-music.com/ because of said representationless taxation. Completely unnecessary impulse purchase by me, and like I said, the Pitchblack is easier for me to read on stage what with the HELLO GREEN MEANS GO colouring of it all. The ST-200 now happily lives somewhere in Australia. :D

EDIT: It's a great tuner as I said, built more solid than most pedals I've seen, but I just prefer the readability of another. Now if someday they release an ST-300 and make purdy green/red divisional colours...

I'm strongly considering an ST-200 tuner. I'm currently using a Boss TU-2, and it just doesn't track the B-string on my Hanewinckel very well. Which also makes it impossible to intonate properly.

For an accurate strobe tuner, the price for the ST-200 is very appealing. I appreciate feedback.

On a side note, I e-mailed Sonic Research with the same question, and they replied in 1 hour and 24 minutes. Not bad!

I would only sell mine if my family was starving.

I used a TU-2 for a while and have been completely blown away by the TT. The Boss tuner took forever and a day to find what pitch I was playing, let alone trying to tell me if it was in tune. But the TT picks up notes amazingly fast and I love accuracy.

And it's a little tank!

I discovered it through a post by Bongo (just like the Compulator). Bongo, you are a wealth of information!

I already had a PitchBlack, but I had a birthday a few weeks ago, and since I had nothing else I wanted, I suggested my family buy my the Turbo Tuner.

I sold the TT because I thought the LED readout was sometimes ambiguous. Granted, as precise as my PB is, I'm sure the TT is striving to be that much more precise, which makes it that much more difficult for me to make it happy, since we all know that bass notes aren't the nice, pretty sine waves we'd all like them to be.

Anyway, I found the PB to be light years ahead of my TU-2, and while maybe not technically more accurate than the TT, it's easily accurate enough for any stage or studio work, and IMO has a much more friendly readout. Having said all that, I could live my life happily with a TT, and I wouldn't ever discourage anyone from picking one up. But, having had both in hand, I preferred my PB.

I sold the TT ...

... to make me happy - thanks. ;)

I now have 2 ST-200, and can't imagine going back to a TU-2 or really any other one, including the Sabine or Korg rack tuners.

I've seen a couple in the TB classifieds over the last month, but as others have pointed out, the TT is probably the tuner I will never get rid of.
