i found this bass on a noticeboard at my work and have been told its a cleaners. i rang up but he is on holiday for the next week so couldnt answer my question. the pic is poor quality and i cant work out what the bass is. thanx in advance to anyone who can.

Identify this bass

Could be an old BC Rich? Looks a bit like an eagle, but with a cutout bit at the bottom???
If it's not, maybe an old Aria Pro 2, but AFAIK they never did a headstock like that.

Well he came back from holiday and let me look at the bass. I played with the bass and decided it was not too bad. Asked how much he wanted for it and he said "oh how bout 25 quid" after looking at it up close it has no markings or stamps on it except for a number on the back of the body.
I still don't know what it is but have taken more pictures, so if anyone can give me a definitive answer i would be more than grateful.

Thank you for the help. That is definatley what it is! anyone know anything about Eko BX7s? i can only find a couple of website with anything about them. does anyone on the forum own one? Once again thank you.
I saw one like that in a second hand store the other day, it was frettless (not original i think). it was natural so i could see that the neck was glued, even though it looks like a neckthrough. it sounded realy good and played nice, had a really skinny neck, but was still comfortable. it did however have a lot of switches which didn't work properly, so i didn't buy it, and also, the body wood looked like it was an ikea table before.

Man, it's 25 quid! The Dimarzio's are worth more than that 2nd hand. Even if you use it as a backup/beater bass, it's a great deal. Buy it!

I couldn't resist it! the price that is. After searching the net i found in good condition they fetch bout £350. after close inspection i think the pickups are the originals and the paint work is also. The paint work has lots of sratches etc and after seeing this one: Invalid Link Removed
I thought hmmm wouldn't that be nice to have, i wonder if mine looks like that underneath the paint. so i went about sanding just a little of the back...
I found after hours of sanding it is a neckthrough and not glued on. Needs about a week more sanding until it is ready to be finished very similar to the one in the original picture.

Hey, congrats, that's a great find for very cheap money (if my conversion memory serves me right 25 quid is about $40 US???). Keep us posted when you get it stripped .....

Great buy, Grim. As Imoh noted, it is highly unlikely they would have originally painted over that nice wood that you are uncovering. Good luck with the project and do keep us posted.

I have got to the stage of sanding out scratches and chips. In my opinion the bass is starting look good. Here is a photo from earlier today:

what grain of sandpaper are you using? I want to strip the paint off of my bass but I didnt want to go around using paint-stripper or whatever.
I'm using 3M Sandblaster sanding sponges which have a grit of 100. it recommends to be used on bare surfaces but works quite well on paint. Then to get small scratches out im using 3M sandblaster sponge with a grit of 180. I didn't want to use paint stripper because i have the fear of it marking or recking the wood in some way. hope that helps.
