Can bass waves actually hurt you?

Just curious......at a demonstration booth from alpine they have a room with about 15 subs in it, and it's soundproofed. They let you go in, put on headphones, and flip the switch. Something like 3000 watts QUAKE through you, one guy almost fell over when it started. My chest kinda hurt afterwards, and I was wondering and what levels can bass do damage (if any)......I would imagine it could vibrate your cells, or something........

I read an article once that sounds of certain frequencies are beneficial to the body - everything in life resonates at it's own frequency (the planet earth buzz somewhere around a "D") and sometimes they can get out of whack - introducing the correct frequency back to a to something that is out of vibration can in fact get it back on track - there have been studies done with bodily organ vibration and helping cure ailing part with sound... all very interesting stuff - till you get to the part where you can actually get things to explode from sound...

Aside from the obvious hearing damage (which is why you would've worn hearing protection for anyway) there is not really any damage that could come (as far as i know). That amount of air pressure would be like getting shoved in the chest, so yer you will be a bit sore from that constant beating of air pressure. That car wouldve been a good experience, love that chest thumping feeling>

I'd be interested to see your source for those studies.... :hiding:

this sounds like snake oil... maybe mythbusters can break this one...

actually if light can do damage (lasers) then why not sound... oh yeah light is a much higher frequency (shorter wavelengths can penetrate more easily) and travels much faster. Oh well I guess theoretically I just ruled it out. Maybe I am wrong though.

btw Im a 5x world Champ in SPL. Here are a few pics

I can't really discuss details but my wifes great uncle pioneered (years ago) the use of low frequencies and imploding sea vessels from a distance for military use. Like I said, I can't go any deeper than that.

Police were thinking about (maybe already have) using the 1/100th (much weaker) version of it for riot control to stun people.
