Some of those are for hifi, some for general PA and some for specialised duties, eg the 2227 is about the highest efficiency, it's a 15, and it's a midbass. You need a fairly large box to get 80Hz, but it'll do what it does with little power.Wow, those numbers are all over the place, from 0.3% to 7%. I didn't know there were such wild efficiency variations from model to model.
Here's a stupid question: Why are some speakers designed to have such super a low efficiency? Can you improve some other desirable parameter at the expece of efficiency?
Really, it all comes down to Hoffman; small, deep or efficient, pick two. The designers of the individual drivers have made trade offs depending upon the desired use.
Edit: as a reference, most hifi speakers (complete box sold with xover etc) are in the high 80's in sensitivity. A few will make low 90's, some low 80's. Compare that to PA/MI gear that's often 10dB better, so 10x less power required for the same SPL. The big direct radiator hifi system I'm working on, using mainly PA drivers will exceed 100dB/W. But it's big.
