cocky young band gets owned by Letterman's Band

Ha Ha!!! That was funny! I actually dig the vibe of that song and the antics! I got to play on the Letterman Show back in 2002 and let me tell you, that is vintage Paul Shaffer. He was so cool man! He actually picks the song the band plays, and often, he picks a deeper cut. He was just a really genuinely cool funny guy and was an absolute pleasure to work with!

Wow. Fire that singer right away. ***.

He didn't even look like he belonged with the rest of the band either.

He looks stupid, awful stage antics and he doesn't sing well enough to warrant keeping him. This is a perfect example of the useless singer who's in a band just cause he wants to be in a band.... Whaddatwat.

It was funny, and they were a little douchey, but that was a pretty unnecessry tirade at some kids who clearly are working very hard.

I don't like their tunes either, but a bunch of 45 year old musicians making a mockery of them is a little ridiculous, the Letterman band seems pretty insecure. "The Orwells" already shot themselves in the foot with that performance, no need to kick some aspiring musicians while down.

Where do I start?
Sure bud, wear two different shoes, show us how rebellious you are.
Flop around on stage; no one has ever done that before.
Are all of your songs two annoying riffs that you just tie together awkwardly?
Iggy Pop called and said "Hey $%^& nuts, you're not the Stooges."

I'm playing clubs for free and these schmucks have a record deal and play on Letterman. Ozzy was right, God is dead.

yeah youre right... now I feel like a jerk.

I flipped between morbid fascination and cringing embarrassment throughout. Was wondering how they made it through the selection process. Pretty much garage band, the writhing singer on the floor was painful to watch, and then the put down at the end (in front of a national audience) by not only Letterman but by Schaeffer........ouch is right! I think whoever "casted" them deserved the pain, not them.

I agree with the sentiment behind this post. Letterman band (and Dave) could have shown a little more restraint and maturity and kept their obvious disdain under wraps.

However, bands like The Orwells getting this kind of exposure mainly because of some clever marketing star-maker machinery has got to be pretty irksome, especially for seasoned pros who have paid their dues and honed their craft for decades. And, for some, there is way too much of that crap going on these days.

In short, just because Orwells got booked doesn't mean these guys have to like it, and if they let it show with a little tongue-in-cheek teasing humor, oh well. Orwells better suck it up and grow another layer, this is the music business.

Lead singer could have been cool and sang another verse/chorus. Young pup was too green to figure it out and just wandered around the stage like amature hour.

If this was The Ramones in 1976, new and fresh, that would have been totally inappropriate behavior for the studio band. But I think that's the whole point.
