Gomez basses?

The first bass I owned was a Gomez, solid maple with a metal humbucker. My parents bought it used in the mid-80's, and it was pretty much in hopeless condition, but I played it long enough to determine that this bass-playing thing wasn't just a fad. After about six months I bought a slightly used Fender Jazz Bass Special and got rid of the Gomez.

Every once in a while I try to find some info on Gomez as a manufacturer but have always come up blank. Do any of my TB peers know anything about Gomez basses?

Solid maple and humbucker seem to place it in the 1980s, as you say. Can't find anything relevant, but of course the brand name fits with earlier Far East imports that used Spanish-themed monikers for illusory prestige: Cortez, El Degas, Emperador, Goya, Granada, Greco, Ibanez, etc.

They exist, but the only person currently permitted to play them is Frank Itt.
