Have a laptop and I want to record practice.

I have a Dell 1100 Inspiron just sitting around and I was wondering if I could use this to record my practices without having to buy any expensive gear. I saw where one thread said that all I would need was a 1/8 - 1/4" connector to connect to the sound card and i could use audacity to record. I don't need quality i just need it to record. Do you think this will work, or do you have an alternative.

If quality is not a huge concern, this will work fine. You could also buy a cheap four track recorder if you wanted to use more than one mic or wanted to run direct from instruments.

Unless you get at least a decent interface and probably a mixer with some good mic pres, you'll have better results from a cheap 4 track.
