I actually have no idea why more companies make 6 string Jazz Bass styled basses.

The Low End Bass makes one along with Stevens bass who makes Roscoe Beck's and Fender has made some prototypes.

Im sure i'm nit-picking but are you gonna round the edges a little more? just loos very straight and i dont think it really suits that top/kind of bass

I dont recall where, but I've seen a greenburst spalt maple top somewhere that was totally sweet. I think a spalt top thread exists.

Your project bass looks much like a Stevens Slant 6; its 4+2 headstock reminds me the 6-string monster Michael Stevens had built for Texas Blues bassist Roscoe Beck. Roscoe's 6-stringer features slanted "side-by-side" Jazz Bass VI humbuckers, a full two-octave ebony fingerboard and through-neck construction. Would you really put a set of Bartolini soapbars on your 6-string project or a pair of "real" J-style stacked-coil humbucking pickups with exposed polepieces as seen on some Atelier Z 6-string Jazzes for true '60s vintage tone?

You can do it by hand with files and sandpaper, but it will take great care and attention to make it uniform all the way around.

Best bet is a router, Jazz basses typically have a 3/8" radius roundover. You can do it freehand if you're careful and don't let the router tip; I much prefer doing it on a router table.

Whatever you do, BE VERY CAREFUL at the neck pocket and stop well short of it, then blend the transition by hand.

+1, my approx 17lb six string 'wick is killing my back. I've got too many gigs where I need it. Come Sunday morning I'm popping advil cause my back is starting to tighten up some. Guess I'm getting old. The thought of a lighter weight 6 string passive J is really getting me going these days.
