EDIT(JT): this thread was deleted when a former member deleted all his posts. however, this thread has a lot of good info, so i've brought it back to life. i can do that. -flexes-.

Looking at the other thread about wish basses it looks like there are a few guys who think that we shouldn't be making fun of wish basses because we don't know what they sound like. Well I say fair deal...

What do you all think of making a small talkbass fund to buy a wish bass and have it evaluated? I suggest we create a fund where members if they are interested can donate money to, and once 300 bucks or so are accumulated we buy the bass and have it sent to JT for him to check out. No it won't have seven strings but I think he is easily the most respected and reputable guy around here to do this sorta thing. I think it might be an interesting little experiment to see what these wish basses are really like. I'd be the first to donate with ten bucks if people want to do it.

This might be a stupid idea but I think it could be interesting. What do you all think?

I might consider a 10 dollar donation if others are interested. What would happen to the bass afterward. I remember on the Bunnybass website they had a bass that they shipped around the country and had members modify it. The Talkbass bass?

BTW - if this actually happens could we have him build us a copy of a Fodera just for kicks???

I'd put in $5 or $10 bucks. Will this be called the Buy A Wish Foundation? And I like Odie's idea of giving it away to a randomly selected member who donated money to the purchase.

Cool idea, but despite my high respect for JT I don't think he should be the man, simply because he's accustomed to a much higher standard of fit and finish than is found on the Wish basses. We need a well-respected non-dealer who still gets his fingers dirty playing blue-collar basses; those bought "off the rack", if you will. :) To be fair, these aforementioned blue-collar basses should be in the Wish price range. Cain't be comparin' no Wish bass to Sadowsky or Fodera or Conklin.

That'd put all of us Non-US-TBers out of the game. I don't think it'll work.

Probably one of us is going to buy one anyway sooner or later, and he/she can do a review.
But the ones I've seen were so different from one to the next that you can't rely on one review alone IMO.

well, there's quite a few folks around the boards who have purchased Wishs... dudepit and here.
I don't know that a full 'review' has ever been posted, but there's been plenty of comments.

that said, I'm up for it. I'd be glad to run one thru the studio and record it and whatnot. We could give it a once-over at the next Bass Summit I host too.

How's about a time-share?

If we're gonna do it, at least get one of the better ones...

What about having it custom made. Then we could suggest some weird things like a truss rod and a wooden control cavity cover. Especially if someones gonna keep this thing. Let's not spend $300 bones on a bass that's gonna have neck problems within a year!

Looks like at $10 a head we've already cleared $100. I wasn't sure how this was gonna go over. But I'm glad so many agree. Good idea Jared.

All interesting ideas. And even though I'm too broke and unemployed to help buy one, I'd like to throw my 2 cents in (leaving me with a grand total of 53 cents) on how you should evaluate it.

I think if you guys do get the money together and do this, it should be evaluated by at least 5 different members and there should be a vote on who those 5 are. They should each spend a week with it and make a report, then send it to the next person. After it's done, raffle it off (by putting all contributors names into a jar and pulling one).

Either that or have one of those get-togethers that you guys have where 10 of you barbecue or something.
(I wouldn't know... Cleveland Talkbass is RS, Larry Kaye, and I meeting at one of the local stores and talking smack about the salespeople ).:spit:

And if it comes down to $.53 per member, I'm on board.

Hey, I just moved to Cleveland a couple weeks ago (Strongsville, to be exact). Do you guys actually meet somewhere?

LMAO !!!

Read that one at the bottom "Submitted by f. carnivore".

LOL "I play metal and funk and jazz and I use it with Peavey TNT115 amplfiers and Dunlap picks. The Wishnevsky bass is interesting and it sounds good for all that I do. I compared it to y friends Peavey Furry II and the Wish is better because it is custome made by a guy instead of bye a machine. Every body always says that I am good at base."
