fretless....I dunno if he offers a fretted option, and if he does, judging by the way I saw the side dot positioning described, the frets would be intonated horribly, so at least with fretless the positions can be conpensated. This may not be the case, but its best to be safe

and a wish wouldnt be a wish without the slotted head and bud control plate!

No offense to the cheapskates, :D but I think this should be limited to supporting members only. If you guys have $10-20 to drop, GET A SUPPORTING MEMBERSHIP!!!! :)

Ok, that rant over. I like the idea of passing it around for review for any of the contributors that would like to check it out, maybe we could pass it along in order geographically, as to keep shipping costs down as much as possible. Possibly return it to the Nashville NAMM show? (although, I really don't think I would want to be seen carrying it into NAMM personally, it's not a bad idea. er......maybe every "tester" that passes it along signs it before shipping it to the next guy? Just a few ideas.

Oh yea, count me in for the $10 also!

Yeah I kinda agree about the supporting membership thing...but I mean we can't force anyone. Ok hambone it looks like your the guy. Is there any way we can sticky this so we can have an easy to see record of where we are at? How would you want to collect the money? Keep track of it? etc etc...

Since this thing has sorta taken off here's some suggestions about the process:

1. Shipping around the country to each (and relying on promptness and other uncontrollable things) seems to be asking a bunch. Of course at $10 a head, that would be 30 folks but with a 7-10 days each for shipping and testing that would take the better part of a year. We should also keep in mind that shipping with insurance is going to be a minimum of $25 for each trip. I only raise the issue because of the last "traveling show" we had got lost in the mail :(

2. Alternative to shipping to 30+ different places would be to do a regional thing - say to 6 or 8 central locations. Then you guys can get together to paw the goods and make comments. More folks will get to see it that way. There might be some other more efficient ways to do this.

3. We should fit a case to it right away. Not just a gigbag but a shipping case. I could build one just for this purpose. Nothing fancy with handles and velvet, just something sturdy to get it around the country with.

4. It would be very convenient for me if Paypal could be used to keep the money straight. Payments could be tracked electronically without cost to the sender. I could also pay for the product easily. If this won't work, I understand but I would like to keep the accounting work to a minimum. By the way - "All deposits are insured by Hambone himself"

5. No contribution should be over $10. We've got enough guys to put things together at that price. This will do 2 things: minimize ones financial exposure and make it easy to do the division (lessee $300 dividied by 30 equals...carry the 1...divide by the exponent...multiply by 6...equals....) Well, you get the idea!:D

6. I really like the idea of putting our signatures on it. I would think that whoever winds up with this instrument would find that pretty cool. We MUST get the autographs of our more famous contributors on the board - Dimin, Lawson, Manring, Sadowsky, et. al. That would make it's "value" just a bit higher

7. After the whole thing is through, maybe we could auction it off and give the proceeds to a charity. I know Bob Gollihur has a thing going to support music in the schools or maybe something more close to home like a donation to the American Cancer Society in Funkster's name. I think that, while we would be having fun with Wishnevsky's creation, it would also be meaningful for his instrument to generate a sign of goodwill from us here at TB. Keeping up some good Kharma can't be all that bad.

Anyway let's keep the planning going...

Hambone,
I like the plan you've laid out. Solid. $10 max is a good plan too...evens the contributions and gives value to all that help. Signatures on it is a cool idea, but i think we should include the same "marker" or whatever is used with the bass so it's not a "hodge-podge" of different inks/etc.
Regional idea is cool too. That region could decide how to get together and view/mess with it when the time comes.

I almost wonder if after the final plan is put together if he wouldn't just donate the "TB Wish Bass" to us for the value of having it reviewed on this forum and then auctioned for charity. Either way it's cool.

I think we should go for the basic Wish bass for review.

If our issues with his basses are the messed up bridge, lack of trussrod, and funky headstock, then why are we gonna try to get a bass built that doesnt have these issues. It wouldnt be a Wish we are testing.

After all whats the point of testing the top of the line super custom model as the benchmarck to judge his standard designs?

Get what Im saying?

BTW, I dont know if Ill be able to donate, but if I could I dont think Id have a chance to play it anyways. How about giving it to Jazzbo or Pacman for evaluation?

Peace
Nick

That might be a too bittersweet pill for Wish to swallow. And I don't know if I'd feel very good about asking him to. If he's read our comments here on TB (and I believe that he has), he might not be willing to put his work up to that kind of scrutiny for nothing and then have it bashed to pieces. - figuratively of course!

I should point out that bashing isn't really the purpose of this. The main reason for doing this is to silence the critics that say we shouldn't run his work down if we don't really know. I, personally, think there is lots to learn from the pics of his stuff but playing one will be the all-telling factor. Hell, I could be wrong and the thing will sound like heaven on earth. I know that I will point out any and all good points as quickly as I will the bad ones. Just don't know until it happens.

Good point Nick. We should pick one of his styles that we could all stomach and then have one made based on that. This method goes a little further since we will be able to communicate with him about the purchase rather than just getting one from ebay. I would be interested in actually hearing his voice splain'n just why he does what he does. And, like all purchases, customer service plays a part in how satisfied we are with the final piece.

Should we consider using a pseudonym for the purchase? After all, if he knew exactly where the purchase was going, he might be tempted to up the quality a little. Or am I being too paranoid here?

I think we already cleared those issues up ;)

ALSO..........we should figure out a shipping pattern, from one TBer to the next based on location, so that way we'd all save on shipping. like we could have it start in the east or west and then it could make it's way from adjoining state and so on.....thoughts on this idea? i think it's the most ideal way to go...

I think the TB Wish Bass should have a few options such as a Truss rod, Frets, Adjustable Bridge, and Good Tuners. All these (except frets) can be sent to him, which reduces the down payment. This way the TB Wish Bass can be properly set up and its true tonal and intonal quality can be determined. We should also agree what type of Pickup should be used and if possible supply that too. It would be one less unknown variable to get in the way. Otherwise our test would be like reviewing the entire Fender line by using a Squire Bronco!

No I disagree. We should not be supplying anything at all. This is the purpose of reviewing a WISH bass. It's to see what HE can build. And I don't think specifying that we want a truss rod is too extravagent or anything. ;) I'm just thinking about his "top of the line" stuff and I'm wondering if that even really exists for him. I mean does he do that? I think you should set up a way to start collecting money Hambone. Are we doing supporting members only or what? Also we should start finalizing the specs for the thing...

I also really like the idea of having it signed by TBer's as it gets passes around. The pen would have to travel as well though as was stated before to make it look more uniform.
