Hambone,
I agree with your comments, and I certainly was NOT trying to start a discussion about what level of scrutiny, etc. I know that if I made a decent product that could have a "fair" test and then be auctioned for charity I might consider doing it for the exposure.
Again...it doesn't change my decision to participate or not.
Thanks for heading it up!

I just responded in the other thread that I thought that one like that (the one you've got in the pic) would be a pretty good choice since it's just enough conventional and still has all of the Wishnevsky "flair".

TX, alls cool bro

I agree that whatever we get should be a standard line item. If we go putting all of the stuff in it that we would prefer seeing on a Wish, it sort of defeats the purpose of trying to let his "concept" do the talking. If he prefers no trussrod, then let's accept him and his expertise up front and judge it accordingly. After all, he is branding these basses as the "Wishbass" line. You wouldn't call up Fender and insist they pup a MM pup in a Precision now would you

Well, maybe some of you would...

Yeah I think we should do what was originally planned...its not that expensive for everyone and it should be much more fun to pass around then just checking out someone's already existing bass

Second that.

I've got the Paypal account setup under my email address. Those with credit cards, and other Paypal accounts can deposit directly into the account. Here are some rules though:

1. Do not donate more than $10 - for that matter, don't donate less than $10. This is all for record keeping purposes.

2. The first 35 donations will establish the fund for this purchase. We are assuming that the bass is around $300 with the extra being used for cost overrun and shipping. If it is less than this, I'll refund the latest contributors money. If it is more, I'll post a request for whatever else we need.

3. You can pay to the Paypal account just by signing up. It doesn't cost anything. If you pay by Paypal, be sure to include your real Name and your TB handle so that I can keep track of who's given what. PM me for my email address (Paypal ID)

4. I'll accept check's if that's the only thing you can get to me. Out-of-state checks will require a period to clear. For my bank that is usually about 5 days. Be sure to include your return address if it isn't already on your check. PM me for my address.

5. When we are approaching the final amount we need to make the purchase, I'll contact Wishnevsky about the build. In the meantime we should solidify our plans of what we want to order.

6. When we recieve the bass, I'll post very detailed pics for everyone to see. Then I'll begin to make it's shipping case. I'll also begin the reviews with our locals here in Atlanta. In the meantime we should plan the road trip for the bass.

That's about all for now. But remember, we've got a lot of details to iron out before and after the order is placed. Let's keep up the good work!

the chances that Wishy has read this thread are pretty strong don't you think ?
maybe we should make sure he will even build a bass for us.. I mean after all we have all unabashedly given our opinions on his work.

what if we collect this money and he tells us to shove it ???

just something to consider...

I was thinking this same thing so yesterday I emailed Wish the link to this thread hoping he would reply to it. It appears that he hasnt and he also hasnt replyed to email. Perhaps he should be officially contacted before we start collecting money.

Cool idea, but despite my high respect for JT I don't think he should be the man, simply because he's accustomed to a much higher standard of fit and finish than is found on the Wish basses. We need a well-respected non-dealer who still gets his fingers dirty playing blue-collar basses; those bought "off the rack", if you will. :) To be fair, these aforementioned blue-collar basses should be in the Wish price range. Cain't be comparin' no Wish bass to Sadowsky or Fodera or Conklin.

of course not - i'm not an idiot ;) i will guarantee that i will be fair. i played "blue collar basses" for almost a decade before i got my first conklin. if you go through the archives, i recommend fender mim basses more often than i do conklins - why? because more people ask for instruments at that price level than at the custom price level, and i've tried out and compared many brands of recent sub-$300 basses.

i am more than capable enough of determining whether an instrument is worth the price, regardless of price. that's a valid concern though.

I'm glad you're cool with the comment, and of course I believe you when you say you'd give a fair review. Frankly, I don't think that *I* would be an unbiased judge of a Wish bass, and that's one reason why I'll contribute but won't go through the hassle of reviewing myself even if a one-member-at-a-time Wishy World Tour were deemed feasible.

I'd certainly try a Wish bass if one were in the local used gear shop.

Was the general concensus to order one directly from Wish, or to use the one that I have? Please let me know as I plan on trying to unload this one again if it is not going to be used for the TB / Wish Round-robin Review.

Thanks,
Mark

Are you coming to the Atlanta GTG? You could bring it if so?

How much are you wanting for it?

No, unfortunately I wont be able to attend the Atlanta GTG....

As far as the bass... I paid $200 buy it now on eBay... Make me an offer....

It even has a nice quality gig bag ( which BTW does NOT come with Wish's basses ) that you could use for another bass!! LOL!!!
