Yeah we have been over this...we would rather pay the man for his work.

Hambone I don't know what your email is for sending paypal money...I don't see it under your profile or anywhere else. Is it not around or am I just blind?

maybe we should make sure he will even build a bass for us.. I mean after all we have all unabashedly given our opinions on his work.

what if we collect this money and he tells us to shove it ???

just something to consider...

That would kind of suck if he told us to "shove it" I mean we are trying to give him a fair chance since we do so much trash talk. Besides, how many people get the chance to have their bass as THE talkbass bass? ;)

Guys if you'd like, I will sell mine for $150.00 plus shipping... It is a stock Wish, aside from a coat of wax on the body... The initial amout mention to get was $300... so here's one at half the price. What does everyone think?

I was thinking this same thing so yesterday I emailed Wish the link to this thread hoping he would reply to it. It appears that he hasnt and he also hasnt replyed to email. Perhaps he should be officially contacted before we start collecting money.

Seems that if Wishnevsky was going to feel that way, Jim here has pretty much sealed the deal. If your intent was to be "fair" with this action, you forgot that this whole idea was born out of us Wish detractors wanting to be fair also.

If we were to contact him before the deal, just what would we expect him to say and just what would we be trying to accomplish? In the sense that we are reviewing a bass (line of basses) isn't it perfectly understandable that we would prefer some anonimity in it's purchase? I for one would question any "review" of a custom product where the manufacturer had the opportunity to submit a version that had been "sanitized" for the purpose of the review. You've got to understand that Wish's basses are advertised in major bass publications. His product is in competition with other products of lesser and greater value. Wish basses are advertised as desirable for any number of reasons. Our interest is to test these claims and compare them to our own experiences and expectations. Why Wishnevsky? Simple - His products have a certain high profile on ebay and TB. His products are somewhat if not completely custom by nature. His claims on his website are strong and proud. And, his product is not very expensive - a fact that lends itself nicely to our experiment. The guys that want to review his instruments have all made vows to be tough but fair. I too have made such a commitment and I'm one of his biggest critics. I didn't think that to do this we needed his permission or the permission/guidance of any member of the forum.

I do hope that we still can purchase one.

Hambone is right on this one. Why would anyone email him a link to this thread? That just seems to ruin the objectivity of it all. I mean he won't know who is ordering the bass from him right? He still doesn't know who will buy it in terms of their name etc...Hambone I still don't know an email address for donations. We should get this ironed out soon.

Why not just use the one Mark already has? I'll buy the dang thing and bring it to the Atlanta GTG coming up soon. Easy. Then you've got your average model for sampling, nice and neutral?

Not to sideswipe the whole community effort thing, that could even still be done later, but if you want some instant gratification here, looks pretty straight-forward to me.

This is a more than generous offer. I would like everyone that has donated to the project so far, and those that intend to donate, to consider this. We should make a decision quickly however so as not to hold up PZ's plans for conversion to firewood or hard cash in a resale. After all, it is a possibility that we won't be able to outright buy a Wish if he has developed hard feelings from our discussion of his instruments. I certainly hope that isn't the case but it could happen.

As my vote, I don't see anything wrong with this approach. The bass is/was a standard item, it has enough adherence to convention so that we understand it's approach, it's probably one of the best designs Wish has done, and it's available now for a really decent price. This approach does circumvent the builder/buyer relationship that we were curious about but if that's the only thing we lose, I think it's OK. After all, those that have talked with Wishnevsky have all said that he's a stand-up guy and I can't argue with that.

Well there, I've said it! - A Wishnevsky does have a price that I feel would be a value. :o

PM me for my address like I said earlier. As much as I trust you guys, I really don't trust all of you guys ;)

Sorry guys... didnt realize this was a big secret... seemed to me since this is an open internet forum that Mr. Wishnevski would probably be interested in knowing what was going on here and would have some interesting things to say. If it was sposed to be secret, then post it in the lounge.
Im an artist and a craftsman myself and if ppl were publically plotting to critique my work on the internet, Id sure appreciate someone letting me know about it. My understanding of an internet forum is a free and open exchange o f ideas. No one's comments here, IMO, would be more be more pertinet(sp?) to this discussion than Mr. Wishnevskis.

Well it's not like we wouldn't want anyone to know...it's a matter of keeping objectivity. I think we would all love to play the bass and like it. Isn't that better than not liking it? When you say we are "plotting" something it sounds like we are conspiring to tear down the man's work and I think in this case it is just the opposite. I think it is only fair to him we commision a bass and judge for ourselves...that was my original intent anyway.

Besides Dave Pomeroy bought one...He has shared his opinions on it. We should be able to do the same thing. Again this is all meant in good fun/intentions there is not really any "plotting" going on.

Gosh Jim, we were publicly "plotting" to buy one of his works also! And don't you think the word "plot" is a bit harsh? "Plot" implies impropriety. Would you characterize BP magazine ranking basses in a review as a "plot" against the lowest ranking instrument? I certainly wouldn't. As for open exchange of idea's, the only idea's we were discussing is how we could acquire one with as little fanfare as possible and get it in the hands of as many TB'ers as we could economically and practically. Wishnevsky has never been excluded from any of our rather long discussions of his products. And there have been at least 2 other threads discussing his basses. A search would've yielded those to you. But Wishnevsky hasn't chosen to take part in ANY of them. We haven't been secretive about our opinions of his work. What we haven't been able to do is actually handle and play one of his instruments. That was our only intent at this point.

I suppose you were just doing what you thought was right and fair. But your post sounded like (and still sounds like) an accusation that the reason we wanted to get a Wishnevsky was to bash it publicly. We tried to make it understood that we were, first and foremost, trying to give Wish all benefit of the doubt. If his instrument really is worth $300 as a bass guitar then we will discover that for ourselves and you can't be any fairer than that.

Geez is it a full moon or something?

there's no secret here, but i'd rather play an instrument that he felt was good enough to sell someone than one that he may make just for the review.

besides, we all know what we're getting - there probably won't be too many comments of "the pickup route looks hacked" - we all know that. been there, done that.

this is going to be an honest appraisal of one of the individual's instruments from a playability standpoint, in reference to how much the instrument costs and what's available in the market at a similar cost.

besides, why would you want to know about someone "plotting" to critique your work? don't you produce every piece with the thought that someone else was going to make an opinion/judgement/critique of it and probably share it with their friends and peers? especially if you charge for it, no?

i guess what i'm saying is why should the review instrument be any different? can it be called an accurate review otherwise?

I could be wrong but I think the general consensus was that we wanted to buy a new bass specifically for talkbass. Getting a used one just isn't the same...gotta stay focused on what we are doing or it's going to degenerate into bickering...

I've already sent in my ten.
