old "Let's buy a wish" thread

I figured based upon Hambone's "rules" a few posts/pages back that we were going with $10/per (which I have already sent to him) as the set rate and making a purchase. I don't care if we get it from Prog or new from Wish--since it appears it would be in the same condition and serve the same purpose.
I'm in with whatever goes down...but I liked Hambones ideas--if we go with Prog's then it will reduce the need for so many contributors(from 35 to about 15)

I am in for $10 or $20, provided I would have the opportunity to give it a spin and gladly offer comments in writing about the bass.

I would suggest a list of 10-15 TB brethren to give it a go and write out their thoughts.

I might also suggest that you plot the plight of the Wish based on geography, so as to minimize shipping costs.

I also think we should include in/on the case or shipping box something from each city so as to document its travels, and a string that includes a photo of each playing it in their own particular . . . their own particular . . . (voice from off camera: Idiom, sir?) IDIOM!!!

PM or e-mail if I make the short list.

2) Does this beauty really cost $300?

Count me in! ;) I can just see the looks on the faces of my (jazz)bandmates when I show up for a gig with that thing slung from my shoulders (that in itself has to be worth at least $10).

You ain't helping.

Can we at least agree on "no lefties"?

I'll be sending my $10 when I get the paypal addy :D

I've talked my fair amount of good and bad on some wish products, and I'd like to see an impartial review.

If we let wish know that we are buying a bass for such a purpose, we'll get a "ringer" no doubt. It'll be like the magazine test car that shows up with just a little more power and a little less weight.

Just do it w/o letting him know. It'd be very unwise otherwords.

Hambone, any status updates on collected money so far?

Hey, I just got in...

There's around 10 folks that have contributed but I don't have a hard count. I'll be getting my Paypal listing later this evening and I'll post the handles of all of the "subscribers" to our little project. The guess I made above is based on the number of address inquiries I've had so far.

Just a reminder that's only $10 that we are looking for. You deep pocket guys don't need any more than that. :)

I don't have time to read this entire thread, but here's an idea that may not have been suggested before.

After all reviews are completed, why not auction the bass on Ebay and donate the proceeds to the real "Make a Wish" foundation?

JD

I was going to suggest the samething but have the proceeds go to Talkbass,
but I agree the proceeds should go to a charity of somesort. Make A Wish sounds very appropriate.

Good thinking jdombrow.

I've recieved 4 donations so far from members at TB. The list is:

BassSaxman
Tufnuts
TXbass
and another donation from folks in KS (I don't want to use your name so email me your TB handle)

Guys, at this rate it's gonna take 6 months to come up with the funds for the bass. I don't want to sound like I'm whining but if there isn't more interest in this idea and soon, we should just as well drop the idea. It's noble in concept but without support, it won't go anywhere.

So C'mon and get your donations in!!!

Ya baby. That's right..me. Tufnuts :D

Me, BS, TX and The other Kansans are the coolest. Anyone that's said anything about these Wish basses (good or bad) should pony up. It's a minor amount, and when we're done we'll find a good way to donate the bass or the cash we get from selling it.

Just remember, the count is up to 2 kansans. Kansans are cool, we care about everyone :D Prove me wrong, let's see what state can give the most.
