What effect is this?

I found this clip in the 'Advise Me' thread, and thought it would be pretty darn sweet if I could get my hands on a pedal that could get me this tone/effect happening.

The thread mentioned a 'Homebrew Hematoma' so I looked it up and found it way out of my $$$ range...

So, in short, are there any other pedals that will get me this trippy sound?

you can get that sound with a fuzz pedal going into an Electro-Harmonix BassBalls.

try an E.H. little big muff into an E.H. BassBalls. that'll get you there!

The Bassballs distortion is definitely not enough to get you there. Jetpack's right -- you want a fuzz first and may also want to turn on the BB's distortion.

I'm almost positive that the weirdness in that clip is from a flanger (or possibly a phaser), not an envelope filter. You can hear where it sounds like someone is playing with the time knob at about 11 seconds into the clip, and again at about 35 seconds.

No. No, I don't think so.

The Bassballs has a real slow release, doesn't it? That's what dissapointed me aobut it (for my immediate purposes, I mean) - it has such a smooth, slow release, that it wouldn't get that funky 'quiver' like I'm hearing on this clip. The EH... is it Q-Tron, I think? - it can do the fast-quiver like that.
