I bought this off of eBay for $315 shipped to my door.
I was kind of skeptical, especially after looking at the pics of the finish and the neck with no strings.
It was bolted together and had all the hardware.
I stripped the hardware before I took the first pics and here they go.
I'll add narrative as we go along.
Warning for the weak at heart.
No paint stripper/softener or wood bleach was used for this project.
A LOT of elbow grease, a ton of sand paper ranging from 60 grit all the way up to 400 something grit.
I even hit it with a belt sander!
Steel wool was used for between coats (4 or 5 over a 4 day period) of MinWax oil based American Walnut (I believe, label was ripped off).
I then used Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil gunstock finish (3 coats) to give a real hard top coat.
Ok, enough rambling. On with the show!
Apparently the previous owner did a "I'm going to start and not finish" the refinish job.
Note the glow-in-the-dark star on the truss cover: :scowl:

Yep, definitely a 505
A WHOLE lot of sanding later and we GOT WOOD!
You can still see shadows and paint "droplets" buried in the grain. I wasn't going to take away all the wood it would have taken to get rid of them.
Besides, I think it will add some good character to the finished product.
This is how she looked after the first coat of stain. Notice my super awesome body holder?
Yep, 18" of 1/2 drive extension with a 3/4" socket on the end.
The socket fit like a glove in the socket hole.
Yes, I sharpied in the model number. In hindsight it was a bad idea, but that's in the past now. I don't plan on ever selling the bass.
The back. I'm loving how the grain is just popping out.

But, like an idiot, after it was finished it I didn't take the time to document it before I put it back together and took it to band practice.
