Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Not yet…he had some special pickups he was going to message me about and I waited but didn’t hear back. I’ll write to him while I wait at the airport tonight … I’ve got some pickups to use anyway.

My Maruszczyk is flawless and amazing. Reading through this thread makes me appreciate it even more. Got what I wanted and it's in my hands without any of this drama. You can specify everything including string spacing, all the woods, what bridges, whether you want zero-fret, everything. None of this heartache. I can't recommend them or some of the other reliable bespoke builders enough. Man, just looking through their pre-built catalogue shows me some absolutely stellar guitars for less than the price of a production Euro/German Spector or Warwick... stop the bleeding and go with a builder that will deliver you something special within 6 months or even just buy off their pre-built list that includes other boutique manufacturers like Marleaux.

I had no idea that this kind of thing went on in this industry but I literally just went and helped a friend pull his past father's prized truck out of a weeded field after 5 years at a restoration shop that never touched it except to damage it more. We had a storage space lined up for it today and cancelled that because the frame was destroyed by 5 years in foliage and we just took it right to the metal scrap yard, where he got $350 CDN for it. Two generation's dream just thrown away after promises and excuses were made over several years while it rotted, unloved and uncared for.

Then I found this thread tonight. I wouldn't even trust that I got what I ordered at this point if I were amongst you that have waited for the life and death of a pedigreed dog without satisfaction. You people are saints. I'm furious on your behalf.

Zon is one of the few builders offering a graphite neck which is probably why they can get away with this nonsense. I would love to try a Maruszczyk!

Dude. It has been 10 years. They are laughing at you.

The longest I have ever waited for a custom instrument was 19 months. And that was during COVID. High demand and bad supply chain issues. They also did not require money upfront.

I don't think that is a coincidence.
