My Custom Build, Ramirez Bass, Wilser

I talked with Wilser of Ramirez Bass (Link Removed) this weekend. He's gonna start my build. Wilser is great, he has a wonderful combination willing to do anything and giving you his honest opinion on what he thinks will work for what you want. I am going for a vintagy look with some modern feel and features. I have a MM/J 6er maple/walnut/ebony Carvin that I love, and needed to add a different flavor to my "gig/studio" worthy basses.

Here's the specs:
-5 string fretted Link Removed Which kinda came out of some conversations that Wil and I were having here on TB and over email.
-wenge pickguard (3 layer wenge/maple/wenge)
-swamp ash body (no figured top)
-3 piece bolt on maple neck
-maple fingerboard with wenge binding and wenge block inlays
-zero fret and wenge nut
-Audere 3 band preamp w/active bypass and 3 position mid switch
-18v electronics
-Nordstrand BigSplits pickups
-Hipshot black hardware
-brass A style bridge
-clover leaf ultralite tuners
-maple headplate veneer
-Rb logo in abalone
-19mm (3/4") spacing at the bridge
-16" fingerboard radius

Here is the pic of the model from his website, mine will look different, but you get the idea.

ehh, i'm more a fan of the natural maple. the birdseye looks too busy.

Yeah, I'm still on the edge with the birdseye, I like the subtleness of the plain, but that birdseye piece is very nice.....

I would go with a wenge fretboard to go with the pickguard and with abalone blocks to match the logo. Maybe relieve the layers on the pickuard so the ash layer butts up against the wendge neck Ash body and ash headstock face. Hey?? You said you wanted to hear from the Peanut gallery :p

I really like the "Geddy/Miller" look this bass'll have, so I'm sticking with the maple board and wenge blocks, but thanks for the input, you peanut, you.

By relieve the layers of the scrateplate, do you mean make it just wenge, instead or Weng/Maple/Wenge (I was going for the traditional w/b/w but using wood, not plastic.

But an ash headstock face might look nice, but would it really be that decipherable from maple...hmmm....

Birdseye Maple (Hard Maple)

Characteristics: Birdseye Maple is a domestic hardwood. The Birdseye figure is found in heartwood and sapwood. Both can be breathtaking. The boards are from Maple logs with irregular growth. The figure resembles the figure in a burl. It contains a small "eye" like in a burl, but it is more distinct. Each eye stands out separately. Small circular or elliptical areas resembling bird’s eyes on the tangential surface of the wood, formed by indented fibers. Birdseye figure is caused by a stunted growth, developed during the years the tree lacked space and sunshine.
