My Custom Build, Ramirez Bass, Wilser

Congrats on the new bass you are having made! That is a beautiful bass, to say the least.
Wilser and I have also started exchanging ideas on the custom bass he will start to build for me in about four months or so. I am looking at a 6 string fretted SC with a very particular AJ like sound that will cut through a Latin rythym section. The sample pics of the wood options are very nice indeed.
You are correct in your assessment of Wilser's understanding of his craft and the valuable input he contributes to help you better understand what is and isn't going to achieve the desired effect. He took my ideas and explained them back to me in a way that I immediately concluded... this is the guy who will build the bass I have dreamed about for a long time. I am looking forward to getting the construction process started.

The way he lined up the grain on the wenge inlays to be vertical is stunning up close. That bass is going to be killer.
We're getting closer.

Yep, zero fret. Do a search for "zero fret", and all shall be revealed
There's a nut, but the strings run over the zero fret first.

I know, it's kinda like a wenge board is peaking thru, it turned out so much cooler than I thought. All I wanted was dark binding/inlays, and I didn't want to use plastic or paint, and Will suggested wenge, perfect.
Booooo, a custom with only 5 strings? Just kidding. Bass looks very nice and classy, especially with the wood block inlays (as opposed to what most people have - pearl/black inlays).

It only adds five notes anyway. Plus, who plays fivers anymore?

Yeah, it seems that now 50% of all custom basses has 11 strings or more (cough*john turner*cough cough). I don't see the need to have more than 6. Honestly, if you're going to play a 20 stringed bass, might as well take a harp and build your own fretboard.
Pickup routs and neck transition to the body done. Oh and a pic of The Wilser to show how handsome he is....ah...I mean.....the rough size/hang of the bass.
Scratchplaet roughed beginnings. It's actually wenge/maple/wenge. I love how well the grain of the wenge and the body ash is lined up. Everytime I get a pic from him, I am amazed. Don't mind the darker spots, it'll all be evened out with epoxy.
I talked with Wilser of Ramirez Bass (Link Removed) this weekend. He's gonna start my build. Wilser is great, he has a wonderful combination willing to do anything and giving you his honest opinion on what he thinks will work for what you want. I am going for a vintagy look with some modern feel and features. I have a MM/J 6er maple/walnut/ebony Carvin that I love, and needed to add a different flavor to my "gig/studio" worthy basses.
Here's the specs:
-5 string fretted Link Removed Which kinda came out of some conversations that Wil and I were having here on TB and over email.
-wenge pickguard (3 layer wenge/maple/wenge)
-swamp ash body (no figured top)
-3 piece bolt on maple neck

-19mm (3/4") spacing at the bridge
-16" fingerboard radius
