im really loving the wenge inlays and the wenge scratchplate except for that straight edge on top of where the controls will sit. it just seems to take away from the overall aesthetic quality of the bass - flowing lines and what have you.
but that is just my opinion.
otherwise its looking killer and i wish you the best of luck with the rest of build!
cant wait for soundclips!!!

Is that a 34" scale neck? That is a really nice bass! I've added it to my list of builder considerations. Also, what's the average weight on those? I'm asking because I have a huge problem with heavy basses!! I'm looking for something 9lbs or less for a 5 string. Lastly, how is the B string sound on the passive model?

Yeah, it's "standard" size.

As for the weight, this is the first one like this that Will has built, but it should be less than 10 for sure. The body is Ash and the neck is maple, so it shouldn't be too bad. I can let you know for sure in a couple months when it's all done

EDIT: from below...yep...swamp ash, my bad....and sorry will, you da man.

Big correction: I'm no master! if I'm master of anything is messing up! ;)

Small correction: swamp ash is the body. there is considerable weight difference between white ash and swamp ash. This particular bass is turning out to be VERY light weight. I won't know for sure untill it's put together, but it'll be sub 9lbs for sure.

Well, I guess we'll have to wait. My setnecks in 34" have had pretty good sounding Bs. The other boltons I've built in the past with a B were 35" scale. I don't see why this bass should be any different than any other 5er with a 34" scale. No magic formula here. What I do think helps is using a thicker B especially on the 34s. I'm gonna put a .130 on this one, so it should all be good and well.
