Anyone else own a Univox SuperFuzz?

I've searched the records here and darn little mention has been made of the Univox Super-Fuzz, a 60's effects box that pre-dates separate effects for guitar and bass. I've had one since the 60's and use it sparingly, as the fuzz can easily be so aggressive that the bass signal loses definition. it has a reputation in guitar circles as one of the most aggressive fuzz boxes. Later versions looked a bit different and had a rubber-coated stomp pedal that covered about half the box.

Mine is the early "green" version...here it is on my pedal board. You can see from the minimal wear that it hasn't seen a lot of use.

I did untill I had to sell it... I had a different modle, but yes - superfuzz + bass = bliss.

From that response I guessed you must be in your teens or 20's. Your profile says you're 19, so I was right on target. Take a trip over to Link Removed.

Univox was a prolific and interesting manufacturer that made a range of products and produced them in Japan in the 60's and 70's. Most of their stuff was pretty darn decent.

The bass player from the Soft Machine used one. I love his fuzz sound. The Beastie Boys used one on their distorted bass parts. The Superfuzz is the only one I really GAS for these days. Do you guys know if anyone makes a good clone? I have a friend who uses the Guyatone "The Fuzz" micro pedal which is based on it. He swears by it but I was hoping to find something with higher build quality, true bypass, etc. Would I be better off hunting down a vintage unit and have it modded?

Interesting...I like, but I prefer my fancy new thingamajigs :D

Univox made a lot of clone instruments that copied Fender, Ric and Gibson. They also made the Lucy series with clear Lucite bodies.

But their fuzz boxes did become famous in their own right. back in the 60's, as far as I know there simply weren't 'guitar" and "bass" effects...there were a few effects boxes. You plugged in, stomped it, and decided whether you liked the sound.
