Slapping and amps: cut the mids or boost the bass and treble?

What is flat when integrated amps and preamps often are prevoiced anyway? Like the Fuzzbass said, I don't care anyway. If it works for you it's useful, if it works for someone else that's diversity. If someone thinks it has only one way to be done, well, I'm glad they aren't mixing all the music I listen to.

Is this one of those troll topics? ; }

Depends on the sound you want. I have a preset set flat with a certain compression, and another with a bit of mid scoop and bass/treb boost and a slightly heavier compression.

More often than not, in studio, if you're looking for a more "groove" oriented tone, go with the scoop, but if you want a little more funk, leave it flat, IMHO.

But, if you're not slapping, please, for the sake of Bass, don't scoop. Every time a bassist scoops the mids, God kills a kitten. ;)

hehe, if you're using heavy compression in your chain it will fight against any serious eqing you're doing anyways :-)

but yeah, seriously, play with the knobs till you get the tone you are looking for in the mix (don't set it up at home!). For every mix and person's taste there is a different eq...

Compression can help get a nice slap tone, so can a little bit of bass and treble boost or a mid cut, it all depends on what you like how you play and how you have your equipment set

Because of my technique I need a little more volume when I slap so here's what works best for me:
fingerstyle - flat with slight treble cut
slap - slight boost on lows and highs

The "contour" knob on the GK heads boosts highs and lows and cuts mids so it works well for slap but, as countless others have posted, don't use it for fingerstyle or you'll get buried.

This topic is near and dear to my heart.:D

I never change anything on the amp or bass going from slap to fingerstyle and back. Maybe favor the bridge pickup a touch for tunes requiring a very articulate tight fingerstyle tone. However, everything else is 'in the hands':D
