Jay Turser 54 Precision Bass....Pics

I was looking around for a 54 to 56 style Precision bass. During my search I found this bass....A 54 style Precision bass made by Jay Turser. I can't believe the quality, fit and finish, and tone this bass has. It captures the vintage sound to a tee. It has the proper contours ( front arm, belly cut) a 3 ply pickguard, good hardware, good electronics , and a great feeling neck. The fretwork is excellent with no sharp edges or high frets. It is a very light bass ( I have not put it on the bathroom scale yet). It has a little neck dive but nothing to be a deal breaker. A very cool little bass for very little money. Anyway here are the pics...

I have the same bass in black. I agree, it sounds great - and a set of Labella Deep Talkin' flats puts it over the top. Also, a Fender bridge cover fits on it just fine and adds a nice chrome accent...even though in this photo it's reflecting shadow and is hard to see. I also agree that it's a neck-diver, but I use a strap with a shoulder pad that increases friction. It's also light - mine weighs 6.4 pounds!! One could add weight to the butt to improve the balance and still have a very light bass. SUPERB value for the money.

What is the neck like.. thin, fat? What is the nut width?

I have one of these in black as well with a set of webstrings.com flats on it. The neck is pretty P-bass like and very similar to the neck on my ATK. It's thinner than a Fender P's neck I think, but I couldn't tell you by how much (haven't played a Fender in over a year). Nut width is standard P spacing.

I just took it to church band practice for the first time this past Sunday and was totally blown away by its abilities/sound quality. I feel all Motown when I play it, and it has just enough mid to keep me in the mix while not fighting with the keyboard player as my Washburn P knockoff was doing. INCREDIBLE bass for the $100 I spent.

Note that I've added one of those cheap Badass-style bridges to the thing to offset the neckdive, which has helped quite a bit. I've also added a homebrew thumbrest to keep my fingers off of the pole pieces (which I've covered with electrical tape since I hit the strings so friggin' hard).

i put this on my SX P and have been pretty pleased with it, but I do dig the looks of the eBay one. thanks for the tip. :)

No prob - I've used the ebay bridge on my heavily modified SX (wanted more sustain) and my Washburn P (original was rusted) with great results as well. When I picked up the Turser for the first time I immediately thought "Whoa, neckdive - this needs a high-mass bridge right away."

A side note for anyone who's considering an aftermarket pickup for this bass: in every review I've read where the reviewer replaced the pickup (and there are many - use Google), they ended up going back to the stock pickup for its great sound and feel. I have an old SD tele bass pickup I've considered installing but I doubt I will based on other peoples' experiences.
