Gettin' into the Blues...need bands/artists

I am just getting into the blues....I need some recommendations of bands Artists...I wanna hear some good blues bass...I Know BB King...John Lee Hooker etc and I love BB Kings Completely Well (Jerry he's a groove king). I need more send ALL recommendations this way pleezzzee!!!!

Some of the best Blues to me is the stuff with just the artist and his guitar. For example, Son House, Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, old Muddy Waters, etc....

Then you have the Electric Blues....

Junior Kimbrough

Then you have stuff that has more of an R&B feel....

That's a nice cross section to get you started. ;)

For blues bass stuff I'd look first at Howlin' Wolf ("His Best" and "Real Folk Blues" are good and have a lot of songs) and a CD called "The Essential Fabulous Thunderbirds". Between those that's all you need to know.

I'm with ya on Wolf but the Thunderbirds? :hmm: That's especially true when you say that all he needs to know...

That T-bird CD has 20 songs from their first albums with Keith Ferguson on bass. He sounds like he knew a lot of Wolf. I was surprised too.

He already has "Completely Well". Jerry's one of my all time favorites.

Still losing me with the T-Birds. There are SO many other Blues artists that are more important IMO.

"Robben Ford And The Blue Line in San Fransisco" has nicely emphasized bass lines.

For straight ahead electric blues, try Luther Allison, maybe "Live in Chicago" or "Blue Streak".

For jazzier almost all instrumental stuff, Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters: "Grateful Heart Blues and Ballads" or "Blues Guitar Virtuoso Live In Europe".

Sure, there's a lot more out there. What I was getting at was that anyone who could play that Wolf and T-bird stuff would be a good blues bass player, and probably be able to play just about anything else blueswise. I wasn't dismissing anyone else's significance.
