I've been thinking about buying an MTD Z6 and upgrading the pickups to Nordstrand dual coils and changing the preamp to an Audere preamp. Does anyone have any experience with this combo? Would it be worth it, upgrading an MTD Z6 like this?

MTD Z6 with Nordrstrands and an Audere

Sounds good. Definitely can't go wrong. But i suggest putting in the pups first because thats where you really get the tonal change from then put an Audere in there if you feel that you would like more flexibility with that tone.
So far, I'm loving my Z5. I originally bought it with the intentions of modding it with a Bart/Bart setup, but to be honest, the sound of it stock has been working out quite well in a live setting, so I really don't know that I'm going to spend the money on the upgrades just yet.
I have a Z6 that I just upgraded with an Aguilar OBP-3 and it has made a world of difference. The Aggie added more beef to the tone. The clarity and politeness are still inherent but I now have what it appears to be a more powerful low end. I like the pickups but I am contemplating what a pickup change might do to this bass.
Either change you are contemplating will put this bass over the top. The flexibilty you will get with an Audere will be something I would love to hear.

I've also been thinking about an Aguilar OPB-3 preamp instead of the Audere. What do you guys think would be a better choice for this bass?
