Whoops...I bought a Bongo.

saw a post on here earlier in the week from BillisCool about an accident he had that ended up in a stingray purchase. Headed over to GC tonight to pick up a stand, and accidentally purchased a bongo.

they had a 30th anniversary stingray there WAY cheap and i played it but didn't like the glossy neck as much as the regular finish on a stingray neck. i figured for the price i could buy it and keep it in its case in a closet for a decade or so and make a decent buck on it. it was a mighty fine bass, i can't lie.

but then i played the bongo. the bongo was also for sale for a price that just seemed too good to be true, and OH MY GOD it was probably the finest bass i have ever played. so it followed me home!

i have been gassing for something in the EBMM family for a while, and dang i couldn't pass it up.

here are some pics because i know the rule. i'll take a better one later but for now this is all you get because this thing needs PLAYED. like, now!

until touching one, i thought 'man are those ugly' and then i played it. now i own it.

That's what happend to me when I first played one! I made a post like this in the bongo thread, and someone contacted me about selling me one. Luckily I scraped together the cash! Finest damn instruments ever.

And I'm finding after a few months, I'm really getting more and more used to the neck and the PUs, and it's just getting easier and easier to play!

Have a great time with the thing; they might get you some odd looks sometimes, but a lot of those odd looks will turn into smiles and nods when you start playing :D

"Whoops, dart in your neck"

I hate the way they look, but hear so many good things about them. If I didn't want to firebomb my local Guitar Center I'd be heading up there right now!

I'll have to find one of those sometime and actually play one.

No.

Now it owns you.

I love Bongos. I really do. I have a bunch of them, and I love them all for different reasons - but they all just KILL.

Mmm, four banger, double hummer - yeah. You did good.

There's a candy apple red one @ my local GC. 5 string, H/H p'ups. It's on clearance for $940. I'm thinking about trading one of my Sonus 5s in on it. I didn't think I liked them, this one seemed to speak to me though. It played really nice. Not sure on the look though. I'd love to find a stealh model 5.

oh my god. this thing is AMAZING. quite honestly the finest bass i have ever played. what an incredible, wonderful instrument.

if anyone has never played one, don't waste any more time. try one out as soon as possible.

rok51, GC is selling them for less that HALF of what musician's friend is selling them for.

when i was a little kid and i got new shoes, i would run around a bit and SWEAR that the new shoes made me able to run faster and jump higher and play harder than any shoes i had ever owned before. i haven't had that feeling in a long time, and i have it right now.

best. bass. ever.
