i've always been told that a moving cone is not good but the markbass cones move a ton when you play. i always feel like i'm about to blow out the speaker. why do they move so much?

a cone that doesnt move doesnt make sound. lower notes cause more noticable movement (longer wavelengths that need reproduced). the louder you play the more noticable it is as well. you may notice it more than the standard black cone due to the coloring of mark bass.
all cones move.
check out some of the dayton subwoofers from parts express in the home audio section but u will need to use a by amp set up as they are pretty much done around 400 hz maybe 1500 but they move more air than a swamp boat a friend of mine and i
built some cabs a while back with some 18s that had similar specs of this type woofer each cab was about 8.5 cubic ft ported down firing woofer and port
cant even begin to explain the sound or movment that eminated from these things
but he did have two 4x10 cabs to go with them i mean we had to put spikes on the bottom of the cab to keep the from them moving all over the stage good stuffsimply gut wrenching

Brutal, just brutal.
I was always skeptical about drivers with the foam/rubber rather than the accordion style "surround?"
Do they really work well for bass?

That is strange...I've seen Madison Knight tens pushed to the max, and their cones did not jump out nearly as much as the Markbass,or Peavey sheffield 10s do...
Is that a good or bad thing when you have a driver jump out so far?
