They just arrived this morning! :hyper:

Even the boxes they came in are amazing ;), I can't wait until I put them in my 6 string I built :D I will put wiring info on here and hopefully post sound clips etc eventually, and any other info anyone needs.

I paid £250 (about $500) for the two pickups and the preamp handmade in Germany including delivery from Germany to Doncaster in the UK, then from Doncaster to Dudley where I live. No import duty either, since I ordered them from a business :)

Of course, there is a pickup for the bridge position too, I just didn't see the point in uploading two pictures, since they look exactly the same ;)

Niiiiiice. Can't wait to see what you think of the delanos. I'm on a quest to find my own preamp, and the Sonar caught my eye as well. :bassist:

Btw, the pickup boxes look as big as shoeboxes for some reason. With that warped perception, it looks like the pickups are HUGE.

Out of all of the MM StingRay pickups that I've tried (EB, SD, Nordstrand and Delano), the Delano MC 4 HE was my favourite in the end (as well the most exquisitly engineered :)).

I doubt that you'll be disappointed by the sound of these pickups, unless they're simply against your expectation of what you want to hear. :hmm: Did sentence that make sense to you, no me neither :p!

Anyway, I'll be back to see how you get on :) ....

The tall unconnected pot is the volume push/pull (active/passive) pot, and the other unconnected pot is the pickup balance control :) Sorry if I ruined your curiosity ;)

Those were the only decent photos I could get on my camera phone :D

Ahh I see, thanks for the clearup. :)

I know you have exams, but did you get to play around with the new stuff, yet?
I'm pretty much set on getting a P pickup from Delano, but haven't decided on a preamp yet. Whatever you have to say will factor in heavily on my decision. ;)

If you need info, just ask for whatever info you need. Bumping the thread isn't going to make any difference I don't think :) I will update the thread when I install the pickups, which is a long way off, sorry.

In the meantime, it might help you (if you want to know the sound of the pickups) to check out Link Removed. He has some recordings on there done with the Delano quad-coils. I'm sure he'll be able to contribute to this thread too, I know he's a member and has helped me a lot in the past, so Brado, feel free to interrupt! :D (EDIT: The song entitled "Peace" on the page are the quad-coils)

Can't wait to hear what these pickups are like.
In the meantime, can I ask a few questions? :smug:

- How'd you come to choose Delano's for all of your electronics? $500 is a huge sum, so you obviously have a lot of faith in them (costs about three times as much as my whole bass!)
Was it a blind purchase, or have you had previous experience with Delano's before?

- Where'd you make your order? Direct from Delano, or from a random dealer?

Sounds extremely clean, while not losing any warmth (was expecting the low notes to sound really sterile!).
Makes me wonder how their P pickups would be like. The last thing I want is an EGM-like hi-fi tone in a P-bass. Then again, they have separate pages for a bunch of different designs! Hope their tone has as much variety as their aesthetics...

Hey James. I'm glad to chime in. Here's my take on the Delano Quad coils. Versitile, versitile, versitile, versitile!!!! They have a great punch when in series. Phat mid range/ hard hittin' low's/ the highs are nice & smooth. When in series, you can get a very aggressive tone (when you boost the highs a bit). The top end (in series) has a lower-pitched sonic character about it. Single coil operation is nice & articulate. The sound of the treble response is higher pitched. I've been asked if my bass had pizeos in the bridge (they heard these things in single coil). The top end is very crisp/ not abrassive, though. The mids are in there, but far less than in series. The low end is a bit more on the "round" side. Parallel is the most hi-fi sound. Very crisp/ clear top end (very high-pitched) the mids are very gentle in parallel. The low end is nice & deep. If you check out that demo tune ("PEACE") on my myspace page, you're hearing the neck pickup in parallel & the bridge in single coil. I was panned ever-so-slightly towards the neck pickup. Reinhard Jedamsik (delano) makes some of the finest pickups out there.

Ha! Yeah.....I read ya. They're perfect for me. My advice is this: TRY DELANO PICKUPS. If you hate them, find what works for you. If they're close to what you're looking for, but not spot on; contact Reinhard. He can custom wind a set of pickups to fit your tonal needs.......he won't take 14 months either.......
I say we establish a higher Delano-per-capita ratio in our respected home town/ state. That's why I had 3 pickups put in my new bass!:) ha ha just kidding.
I really like what Delano pickups do for my sound. It's like "honesty with an edge." Not too sharp of an edge, though.

Do you only have the Quad-rails? Also do you have the Sonar preamp, is it nice?

I recently installed a set of Delano HE/S dual coils in my Roscoe coupled with a Glock pre.

For my tone and my needs, a big step aboth the originaly installed Bartolini elec and pickups.

To my ears, Delano are much more linear. In the end I'm very happy about that swap and my bass which was quite dark is now as goog as a MTD for slapping.
