Double Bass Bergantino or EA 1x12 cab?

can anyone offer some insight into these two cabs?
im an electric/double bass player that needs to get a cab to go with my AI Clarus head i just bought. im after a cab that'll be clean and accurate with a decent output. it looks like its come down to these two. any suggestions/advice/personal experience would be greatly appriciated...

I wish I could tell you I've A/B'ed them, but I haven't used a Bergantino myself. So based on what I have used, I can say I'm happy with my regular Wizzy and Wizzy M-line for both DB and EB. I suspect you'll get favorable responses for both cabs. Maybe winston will chime in. Search for his posts on this topic. I know he's compared them in older threads.

Depends on what you mean by average gig. I mean your average gig, not mine. I recently used my M-line on a 17-piece big band hit without a PA and it did fine. That was in a concert hall designed for musical performance though (read good acoustics), seated ~ 150 people. On a typical jazz trio / quartet / quintet jazz gig in a restaurant or bar for me, no sweat.

You might could try and PM wingnut and robgrow and winston and ask them to look at this thread. I have not heard a CXL in person.

Well ... according to Bob Gollihur's web site, the CXL has a "nice presence bump at 1KHz which conforms to the Euphonic Audio house curve." I think wingnut A/B'ed the CXL and Wizzy and something else for his bandmates, and they preferred the CXL. You might could search for his posts on this topic. OTOH, I think B String A/B'ed the Wizzy and Berg, and much preferred the Berg. So does larry if memory serves.

From what I've gathered, I think all the EA cabs have kind a pronounced or articulate mid-range. Once I got used to it, I found I missed it when I used any other type of cab. Really helps get your sound out in noisy rooms, dense mixes.

The Wizzy's have kind of a low-mid emphasis too, which I happen to like. I use them with my DB, a Lakland Bob Glaub and a Lakland Joe Osborne 5-string, both strung w/ flatwounds. Old school. :cool: Your tastes and needs may be different.

I'm pretty familiar with the Bergantino 112 and very familiar with the EA Wizzy M-Line. The Berg is a nice cabinet, but I prefer the Wizzy M overall. The Wizzy M also has a significantly higher sensitivity rating, is a 4-ohm cab, and is almost 10 lbs. lighter, so everything is in favor of the Wizzy M from my point of view.

I also like the Wizzy M better than the EA CxL-112. And even if I liked the way a CxL-112 sounds, they are just too bulky and heavy for me to want to schlep around.

Only my opinion though. They are all great cabinets.

I have two Berg AE112 cabs and I absolutely love them for both upright and electric. It's the new light series with the neo driver. Please do yourself a favour and try one before you make a decision. It's very flat, even and present on stage. Just my $.02.
