I like when TBers include sound clips. This thread is an attempt to put together a central database of sound clips for TBers' different rigs, along with info about the rig. Since we all want to hear how cool-looking rigs sound (I think), as well as what kind of tones our fellow TBers are going for, I thought it would be cool to post links to sound files here, ideally along with a detailed description of the gear and, really ideally, a pic.

Also, I was thinking, maybe no optional effects. If you are Geddy Lee or somebody and you have a distinct sound that is your signature, then, yeah, but tell us exactly what you are running through also.

Has this been done before? Searches for, e.g., "sound" were not productive. Also, I love Basstasters; this would be less scientific and more TBer-centric.

I'll go first.

Below is a link to a clip of me playing along to "Hedonism" by Skunk Anansie, the former band of my favorite bass player, Richard "Cass" Lewis. I am playing an Aspen P-bass (Stanley, on the left there) through an SWR WorkingPro 700 into a pair of Avatar B210 Neos. (A/k/a, "Street Justice".)

No pedals, and I don't use rack processors.

Don't know what kind of strings they are; they came with the bass. Roundwounds, I would think.

Clip made on a handheld recorder (internal mic) two feet in front of my cabs. Playing pretty soft.

I know I suck. But I love my tone!

Is it a clean sound? That's how I think one would describe it. Or is it actually dirty, gritty, fuzzy, or otherwise unsanitary? That's part of what I would like us to do in this thread: clarify some of these terms. Most times ppl use them without the actual sound right there to refer to. Probably, everybody else knows exactly what those terms mean, but I don't necessarily. Or maybe I do. I don't know.

OK ... I have not been able to find a TB clip of a classic frig rig (yet), but kinda sorta close, so I am taking the liberty.

My SVT-410HLF is much punchier and brighter than that clip even with the horn turned off. I realize it's his sound but I would do some tone adjusting on that rig, I dont consider that clip representitive of what a 410 or an 810 can do.

I'm a bit tech-challenged, but if you cats go to Link Removed you can hear some live cuts of me playing my 64 Fender Jazz through a Line 6 Bass POD into a SWR Workingman 4004 into an Aguilar GS112 and an Avatar Neo 2-10. I think I was using the Acoustic 360 model on the Bass POD that night.

If you click on the original tunes, you will hear what a good engineer can do with that same bass going direct.

First off, great thread - thanks for this one. Here's a short clip of me goofing around to some Rush & LZ. Please excuse the weak drum programming - I'm still trying to get the hang of it. The main tone I strive for 90% of the time is a growly, gritty tone with some upper midrange bite, suitable for rock & classic rock stuff - sometimes heavier if the song calls for it. It usually ends up in SVT-ish territory. I clean it up for most anything else.

I don't have any files saved anywhere, but here are links to the myspace pages of 2 of the bands I'm in.

This first one is a new jazz/funk/soul project that we just started. Played our first gig last weekend. The clips are three of the demo recordings we did for radio play and for getting gigs. If anyone happens to know the real name of the second one (called Garaj on the site) please let me know. Its a Garaj Mahal tune that we just found, but wasn't named.

For these I'm playing a 2001 Warwick Thumb BO through my pedalboard (but no effects were used) into a Markbass F1. I then DIed from the F1 to the engineer, who I believe just added some compression.

If you skip forward a little past the heads into the solo sections you can hear the bass better.

The second one is an 80's cover band I play with. A few of these recordings were made straight from the board at a live show with a little post production cleanup and the others are from recordings in the crowd. Not much post production on those, just a little mixing. On these its my same Warwick, pedalboard (mostly played dry on these songs) into a SWR Workingman (15 and tweeter).

I wish I had some recordings of just the bass, but I just don't do much home recording. The demo songs are definately better quality, but hopefully they all sound well enough.
