I just got the Berg IP112ER stack that I've been lusting at for two or more years. I've only ever tried them out briefly in a very bad-sounding music store, where everything rattles and the salesman is hanging over you panting and drooling like a teenager on his first date. I really didn't think it would be that much better than the passive Berg stack powered by the Eden WT800B in bridged mono; couldn't possibly be louder, or punchier, or sound that much better...could it?
Boy, was I wrong...totally wrong!
This speaker system crashed with the aliens at Roswell in the 40's, and the US government's been sitting on the technology ever since; Obama finally decided it was time! Previous administrations didn't want it to get out, 'cause they knew, eventually, that no company would ever sell a bass amp ever again once the word had spread. This thing is just frightening. It's about as loud as 2 Edens, bridged mono (if that's 1100 watts at 4 ohms, this thing's about 3,000), and you could NEVER eq in this kind of sound, not with a refrigerator-sized rack of the finest Klark-Techniks. Smooth, rich, deep, crispy, punchy as ****, and the attack is so fast, I can hear harmonics on the string as I lift my left-hand finger off; I've only ever heard that in the finest studios, with the finest equipment. And it's DEAD silent - no noise at all; nothing; nada. No hiss, no hum; scarey quiet. He should put a little light on the front to remind you that it's on, like they do on Rolls-Royce dashboards (to remind you that the engine is on). I'm currently using it with an Aguilar DB680 pre that I've borrowed temporarily (very, very nice), but I'm still auditioning channel strips and pre's.
I've heard these same speakers with the Markbass LMII, which sounds very good, but - sorry. Not in the same league, not from the same century; not even from the same galaxy.
Sell everything you own - trade in your children - you don't need TWO kidneys, come on now, you'll be fine, you sissy... save your pennies. Don't buy anything else. The aliens have landed and have started a bass amp company! This things from another galaxy and another planet, man, where the bass players step out front and show you what it's like; it just doesn't seem possible with the technology we've got!
Unbe*******lievable. My rigs 30 lbs lighter, and sounds 1,000% better. Gig report to follow. Definitely NOT old school - this is so new school, it hasn't been invented yet.
Jim Bergantino is a genius. And absolutely ******* crazy to build something like this. Insane. The Porsche Quad-Turbo V12 Lemans Prototype of bass amps.
