Bass player walks out when he sees my Les Paul

this is weird but I think it's the reason why our bass player had to leave. 30 minutes ago I was asked to go get my guitar and we were going to do a first practice with the new band I'm in.

I rush home grab my Les Paul Black beauty and my Fender Amp. when I return 30 minutes later I go to set up and then the bass player decides he had to go.

whats up with that? I think too many people where I live have a serious ego problem. They don't want to work with anyone who can show them something. We all can learn something from everyone. I'm always wanting to learn something new. and if someone knows something I don't I get a free lesson that great I think.

sorry just ranting here. really pissed off that I rushed home to get my stuff for practice and ended up not practicing.

Are you sure that something just didn't come up for the bass player? I can't see any SERIOUS PRO bass player leaving a band because the guitarist plays a Les Paul.
If that is the case....I would suggest getting a new bass player!

Why would a bass player unexpectedly leave rehearsal when the guitarist returns with his guitar and amp? Do you think that a bass player cares how wonderful a guitarist is? Do you think that a bassist is dumb enough to think that a guitarist's talent and their equpment choices are somehow related? I mean, seriously, there are tons of bassists who own basses that make Les Pauls look like toys. Am I missing something here?

BTW, if you are a guitarist, then why are you posting on a bass forum?

They brought me into the band as a rhythm guitarist and a backup bass player and back up lead guitarist. the drummer who is the band leader wanted to make sure if one member did not show the band could still do the gig.

I don't know why the bass player had to leave. He didn't say he had an emergency. Bass players know their scales and should know theory. I heard him making mistakes on a 3 chord song. Maybe he felt threatened or something? :confused:

I work full time as a guitarist. the other band members have day jobs.

I sort have a reputation around town. I'm just an average guitarist. Nothing special but in a small town people talk all sorts of silly things like when he plays solos the nails in coffins come flying out...he raises the dead with his solos...or some crap like that. :rolleyes:

did he even hear you play?

are you thinking he assumed a les paul must mean you're an amazing player and he thought he wasn't good enough to play with you?

edit: or maybe you are Les Paul and he knew he wasn't good enough :D

Maybe you should borrow a Strat & try again with this practice. If the bass player stays and everything works out, you will know that he is afraid of Les Pauls. If he runs out of the room again....ah....I guess you should replace him.

I could replace him. I would rather play bass actually.

Fender? :lol: no actually I have had fun on strats.

Next time I'm using a half stack and head..Peavey. The club owns it so all I got to bring is my LP. :)
