D'addario rounds vs. DR Sunbeams?

I've found that the D'Addarios have just a little more tension to them than the Sunbeams. The DR's also have a smoother feel to them, IMO (easier on my fingers). Both have nice tone to them, though (with the Sunbeams having a slightly warmer tone overall).

I used D'Addario XL's for years & years (they're a really great string, too) until I tried a set of Sunbeams - now they're my favorite rounds for sure!

I say pick up a set & give 'em a shot. If you don't like 'em you can always go back to your trusty XL's! :)

Good luck!

Similar experience here to what Buskman says. I used D'Addario XL series for a LONG time. D'Addario is my favorite string company and I still use them on my guitars (2 electrics and 2 acoustics). I was also using D'Addario's Slowounds and needed to special order the extra-long ones for my STB basses. So, I decided to try DR, and the Sunbeams sounded very very nice. I do like the way they feel, and I think a lot of what I like is the round core DR uses compared to the hex core D'Addario uses. I tried a couple sets of DR's hex core roundwounds (stainless) and didn't like them nearly as well as the round core Hi-Beams.

awesome, i put a set of DRs on my strat when i finished building it and liked em so i figured id check their bass strings, and pretty much the only things id like out of the D'addarios is less tension and smoother feel, so I have the feeling Sunbeams are right up my alley.

Thanks!
