I just scored this from FilCo...

While he waits for the e-check to clear, and I wait for it get here, I'd sure like to hear first hand user reviews, see pics, etc to help get me thru that wait period...

That's a beauty, Chef. That's my favorite of the '50's Reissue color combos. Then the black, and finally the Fiesta Red. (No offense to you Fiesta owners - that's just my personal preference.)

I almost bought one of the Honey Blonde's awhile back, but at the time, I already had a Honey Blonde Highway One P that sounded real good. So I didn't really want to sell it just to buy another Honey Blonde P!

But I must admit, when I saw this one in the classifieds last night, it took me back. I was thinking about snagging it, but got to the bottom and saw you had already done the deed. Congrats, man. She's gorgeous.

I have the same identical bass, and you will not be disappointed. I just traded my '82 Fullerton '57 for an '82 Walnut P Special, and ended up missing the '57 badly. So I picked this one up to hopefully even partially fill the void, and I was very surprised. This sounds nearly as good, and plays and looks great. Fit and finish is excellent. With the GHS flats on it, it's 100% old school. With rounds, it barked like a good P oughta. ;)

I have two '72 P's...one with an A neck, one with a B neck.
Recently sold my 51PRI, which was a B neck as well.

After playing SirDugh's fer-real 62P, I wanted something with a full-on C neck.

If any of you guys have comments on how the 50's Classic pickup fares against other known P's, I'd like to hear about that as well.

thx!

Here's mine:

I love it, I have a U.S 62 reissue Jazz and P and this one fights for #1 time with the J and the 62 reissue P comes in third. Its build quality is as good as its U.S. brothers at a much lower cost. It feels a little different to me due mainly to the poly finish while the U.S. versions are finished in nitro, doesnt make it any less of a bass to me again just a different feel. Hope you enjoy your new bass!

Hmmm...pickup-wise. Well, I haven't had the bass apart and probably won't, I mean, it's new, it's MIM, no need to verify parts and whatnot. But I suspect there are some differences in construction of the pickup. Usually the MIMs have the exposed bar magnets on the bottom. Not that I can hear any difference. To me, it sounds VERY close if not identical to nearly any P I've owned. (Lots...!). It will NOT have the raised "A" poles like the AVRI though. That's the only cosmetic (and aural) difference between the two, other than not having covers and a thumbrest. You'll love the "C" width at the nut too. One observation on mine, since I can compare it to my own '60 P, is that the MIM width is right, but it is actually slightly thicker front to back than a real "C" and an AVRI "C". Not overly so, but instantly noticeable to me. They're probably all a bit different though.

Great score Chef. I have one of these in honey blond but it has a tort guard and a bridge cover.

This bass has made me discover my true "inner bassist". I've got flatwounds on her and through my LM II and Dr. Bass DL115 it cuts through like nothing else. She thumps and purrs so nicely. My band has noticed as well and they really dig it.

When I first got it I was thinking about a pickup swap, but after some adjustments I think no swap is necessary.

I love the chunky neck. I love the feel, tension, and sound of the flatwounds. I can funk out out on this like no other bass. Fantastic! This is the sound I've been waiting for.

I'm six days into mine... I'd post a pic, but it is identical to yours! When I went bass shopping, I walked into the store with an eye towards that bass, (I had already put some time into it during several previous visits)...

As a control, I brought along my '96 MIA P, which is really my benchmark bass as far as a split-coil P... I tried out six different basses, (Ps and Js) and the '50s was the one... Back-to-back with my MIA, it was giving me the sound I like, and the neck... Well, you'll know you're holding a bass!

Did I need another P? Lord no!! Sure am glad I bought it though!!!

Mine is a twin of yours. I have had it for over a year and love it to death. It has all the great P bass sound i could ever ask for with flat or rounds. The neck is special and so nice. I bought this over the choice of a new hwy1 or a 2002 like new MIA P at the dealer i bought it from. From the looks to the tone it won hands down.
My nut edge chipped off at the E string and i had that replaced this year and added a tugbar, besides that shes stock. Theres a pic of me playing her on my myspace the links at the bottom.
