MIM 50's Precision Reissue Users post here!

Here's mine! My new #1. Finding it hard to put down...

Love mine. As others have mentioned, the neck is awesome. As for sound, I've compared mine to a friend's original '66 P and if I roll my tone off a bit they're very close. Just load it up with some nice flats (I use Fender 9050ML) and you're good to go.

Here's a pic, alongside my Squier CV 50's P. (I love them P's!)

envika: here's the sunburst version: 2 tone.

Got this back in October. My first P bass. I have always been a 5 string Jazz bass guy but I started getting cravings for a Jamerson funk machine type of bass but I prefer maple fretboards. I saw this in a shop in Japan and was stunned at how pretty it is. After checking that the price they were asking was the same as what they cost back home, I snatched this one up. Having a bit of trouble getting used to the neck width but it's a great neck nevertheless. Sounds awesome as well!!!

IMHO, Fender's "Classic Series" is almost exactly the same as the "American Vintage" series except they're made in Mexico. Same woods, electronics, parts, etc. I'd like to know if there really is any difference in these two lines other than pickup and bridge covers and where they're actually assembeled. They're definitely a step or more above the MIM standard series and I'll take a chance by saying they're near equal the quality of the American Standard line :hiding:

(Sorry for the crappy photo)

AV's are nitro finish and MIM Classic's are poly. Otherwise, yeah, they're pretty much the same.

Poly is the shiny bulletproof finish that most basses come with now. Nitro is the older-style finish that's softer and will show wear with age. Some folks believe nitro lets the wood "breathe" better, leading to better tone, but personally I think that's a bit of a stretch.

I believe that poly is also easier to apply so it's a less expensive finish for manufacturers to use.

...ya done good. I can't resist the temptation to post a pic of my Precisions again...

I'm jealous of the honey blonde. Mine is a gigging fool. I stupidly traded it off at one point and immediately traded back for it! As I mentioned, a friend had a major gig in Dallas and came by my place with his new Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 210T beast (terrific sounding amp with a super-tight bottom). We plugged the Classic '50s into it and he played with a rapturous expression on his face -- then packed up the GB and took the P with him! He called me to tell me how much he loved the fast maple neck, even though he's a Jazz Bass guy.

I also have the twin of yours. The only C neck I have but it's become my #1. Neck is wide but shallow front to back. Strung with TI Flats. '62 RI pickup installed. A light sanding with 000 on the back of the neck to remove the gloss improves things even more IMHO. You done good!

As far as I'm concerned, the Classic 50's P is Fender's bang-for-the-buck champion. I lost the roundwounds and slapped on a set of 9050ML's and that's all it took. I had figured a pickup swap would be in order but I was wrong. This is an excellent bass; it looks excellent (mine is black), feels excellent and sounds excellent. In my nearly 60 years (time flies), I've owned my share of P-Basses and played even more and, IMHO, this is as good as any of them. You made a wise move picking one up. They also get a ton of love on the Fender board.

yep i am digging mine very much... it's my first 'real' p-bass so i don't really have much frame of reference, but i have a feeling it will be with me as long as i can still pick it up...

it was great straight out of the box but putting flats on seemed to really put it in its 'good place', if you see what i mean. resonates really well unplugged. i put a gotoh bridge on but may go back to the stock one.

records like a champ, too.
