Verellen 300w all-tube amp

Calling Tom Bowlus: There's a new boutique tube amp on the market, the Verellen "Meat Smoke"

Bass NW just started selling them. I was in the shop today and tried it through an Ampeg 810 and an Aguilar 412, and it sounded killer. Very reasonably priced too!

It seems to have the same power section of an SVT, but with an original preamp design. The look is, "interesting" to say the least, but it's got the tone!

That is so so SO pretty.

If they made one with white tolex'ed sides and a white-ish stain on the front panel,
it would be mine.

That looks like a killer amp. Their site is selling them for $1600

that's insane! A US made 300 watt tube amp for that price? I'm buying one as soon as I get some cash.

Very impressive, in particular the price and simplicity of it all. Wonder what the weight is? Not that it would really matter, considering it actually has properly placed handles for a change.

FWIW there was another thread on these recently, in which the amp builder stopped in to answer some questions.

Dave is a nice guy. Kids on this forum into hardcore at all will know him as the vocalist for Botch. Dave has been building amps for Brian Cook (bassist of Botch, TAAS, Russian Circles), Dave Knudson (guitarist for Botch, Minus the Bear), and Evan Patterson (guitarist for Breather Resist, Young Widows) for awhile. He's a nice guy, too. I've had discussions about several custom cabinets that have all gone well. Hoping to have one within a few months.

still, 1600 for a PTP SVT clone is crazy tempting.

hopefully, the proof is in the pudding.

Verellen makes some of the coolest looking amps available, in my eyes, and the new bass head is no exception. I'd love to hear one.

I thought is was actually Dave's brother Ben of Harkonen/Helms Alee fame.

Very cool. It looks like they're filling one of the most conspicuous gaps in the amp market. I'm sure these will do quite well.

I'm disappointed by the lack of SpeakOn outputs, and even moreso with the lack of a 2 Ohm output, but I imagine both could be added with little difficulty.

Adding a speakon output is an easy mod. 2 ohm operation is not an easy mod.
