I need a new rig!!!

Someone said this so I would tell everybody whatt my limits are.

Got 300 now but willing to go to about 1000,
Everything, from the brothers johnson to iron maiden,
0-1000
3 including me,
kinda big (400-600ppl) but don't wanna get a new rig when I play bigger gigs,
0-1000,
Soft finger style, huge with a little bit of reverb for slap, and a big meaty pick-tone that I can fuzz (distortion whatever) if I need,
0-1000

Look at used gear, try alot of different amps, and cabs. Bassically, look for 300-500 watts, (or more), and at least a 410 cab, if not a 610, 810, or if you prefer, (I do), a 215, or 115/410, even 212, or 412. Make sure the amp and cabs match up with respect to the ohms ratings, and that you actually try it in person so you can judge the tone for yourself. You could buy a new rig for 1000 bucks, buy used.

I am just never going to recommend stock 410s/610s/whatever to anyone anymore. Why buy poor technology? Folks on the forums call things "four speakers in a box" with good reason. Sometimes they sound OK, but it's not by using any science or anything.

Custom cab makers (LDS for instance) will make you a superb quality cabinet for less than a commercial 4x10, and use sound design principles (vertical driver arrangement, midrange drivers, adequate size for the speakers, and so on). Well designed cabinets will do a lot more with a lot less weight and money.

So you can buy yourself an Ampeg fridge for 900 bucks or you can buy a 115/6 from LDS for 500ish, both about the same volume and one 1/3rd the weight of the other.

That said, for a head, buying used is a great way to go :)
