Not big on the large hunbucker by the neck approach but I see why you like it, that's one sexy bass!

I know - that bothers me too. I could only hope that it hasn't been on the bass that way for years, and that the finish doesn't show in the "upside down" pattern where it is.

I just took a look around the web for pictrures and the ashtray is the right way round. At school we had a copy of a Telecaster Bass and the cover was that way around also.

For the definitive answer, I was trying to visualise Suzy Quatro playing her Telecaster Bass on Top of the Pops in 1971 or so, but at the age of 14, with Suzy in that Leather cat suit, I don't think I got as far as looking at the Bridge cover!!.

Actually the bridge cover is reversed in the Ebay pic... from what I understand, a lot of people did that so they could leave the cover on, but not have the foam mute that is glued to the underside touch the strings.

I stand corrected - !!. I've been searching on You Tube to find Suzi playing her Telecaster Bass and I found her playing Les Pauls, Precisions and what looked like a Yamaha, but no Telecaster!!

Yep - I guess the humbucking version wasn't selling to their satisfaction, so they changed the route and went to the original P single coil version. (And jacked up the price !)

The Telecaster Bass which appeared in 1967 was effectively a re-issue of the orginal 1951 Precision Bass. The one that Started this stream was a later model that had the Humbucker near the neck, rather than the single coil PUP in the middle, with the ashtray !!.

*DING* Right answer. Not uncommon to see on the early 50's P basses also.

In the '69 catalog shown in post #7 it says the Tele Bass has a "custom contoured body".

AFAIK (which isn't that far) they had no belly cut or forearm cut. What's the deal?

I like the blue one.

Um, I thought they started contouring bodies in the early 60's.
