G&L has a new Jazz Bass

(ok, it's just a Fender look-alike, but I like the G&L stuff a lot, and think they make a better Fender than Fender - so a direct "copy" is something I like. This probably came about as of the loss of Fender's lawsuit to protect "their" design? (though must have been in R&D way before that...)

At least G&L has a more legitimate claim to the design...:ninja: I bet they do it a bit better, too. I am kinda disappointed, though. I do like my Fender basses, but I don't like the whole pickguard and control plate thing. The Jazz bass looks so much sexier without the guard and rear-routed controls.

i like the look of this, quite a bit actually. it always really bothered me that the ASAT guitars were available in these fantastic faded vintage colors, and all the basses looked like ugly unadorned modern monstrosities (basically: desperately in need of a pickguard and some more vintage color choices), but this seems to go along with more of what the G&L guitars have always been about, style-wise at least. i like the JB in fullerton red quite a bit... much sexier than anything fender has done in a while, and i'd be willing to be it plays better too.

the above is IMHO, YMMV, ETC.

I fail to see how this does anything but cheapen my opinion of them. The old JB bass was as close as I would have liked them to get in their offerings to a nod to that era, as was the asat, mainly because of the body style, but gave them that one as no one else was making a tele-style bass...but this? This is just a step backwards from Leo's original vision for G&L.

Innovative no longer, methinks. There is nothing novel about this take on the jazz bass. Nothing. Not in this day and age. It's like admitting defeat.
Even if they had done it pickguard-less with one MFD and a J coil at the neck I'd STILL feel the same way, due to Lakland. I dunno, I guess that makes me a G&L purist, but so be it.

G&L was Leo Fenders last guitar company, and obviously Leo Fender was the founder of Fender Guitars, so really that design is Leo Fenders, even though it is owned by Fender Musical Insturments.

Anyways, looks cool. I think I like it better than the Fender Jazz bass.:)
