Bayou cables

I ordered a cable back on March 30th and still have not received it. I sent an email to him asking about it and he answered that he had to get a day job due to the economy and that he would fill the orders in his spare time. I don't expect to see mine for at least a few more months.

Any suggestions on another vender for quality, hand-made type cables? I like Butch, but a turn around time of several months isn't going to cut it.

I had contacted Butch about a refund and he said he refunded me thru PayPal but the thing is I dont have an account with them and now he wont reply to any of my emails any suggestions on possibly getting my money back?

I had trouble with Butch but I didn't have to go as far as having to ask for a refund. My issue with him was his wait time. When I placed my order he told me that it would be two weeks before he could make everything. Six weeks after the promised two weeks I called him to find out what the deal was and he told me it would be a few more days but he'd get my stuff out by weeks end. He kept that promise and my cables were delivered the following week. Trouble was I needed male to male XLR. He made them and they work great. Knowing about Butch being a one man show now, if I ordered I'd expect a 2-3 month wait minimum.

Its the economy.... Butch is strapped for cash.. and now...time as well. He'll be making up general-use cables (non-custom) and just offering them for sale when he's got the time for that. The ones here (including myself) that DID get some custom Bayou cables are feeling very fortunate indeed about now.

While I am not a customer of Bayou Cables, general business sense tells one that due to the economy the way it is, Butch has spent all the advance payments he has received for his living expenses and/or he was using prepaid money to fund his operations and when the prepaid money dropped significantly he got caught in a cash crunch and therefore is not able to provide any refunds. :atoz:

Since he has not notified his prepaid customers that their orders will be delayed for several months and/or limited communications with them, IMO, he's basically ruining his business reputation that he worked so hard to achieve (based on other TB threads and recommendations). :bawl:

Since each parties loss is small, IMO, he's hoping that he'll be able to get your cable made before the complaints start to pile up or he's not concerned with your loss very much since he's struggling to pay his own bills. Even then, will he have the cash to ship your cable out when it gets made?

Still, even if he makes standard cables and starts selling them before fulfilling his custom orders, how long will it be before all the ripped off custom order people start complaining en masse? So, why order BC's standard cables when he has unfulfilled custom orders and unrefunded prepaid $$?

Since Bayou Cables is well known for quality work, here's hoping that Butch will be able to turn things around. :help:

As far as the prepaid customers unfilled orders go, you'll, hopefully, get your cable, eventually, but if you need one now, best to order from somewhere else or as suggested above, make you own. :bassist:

Stumbo, The custom stuff is what set Butch apart to begin with. Standard cables can be bought through local retailers for less.

If he's taken advantage of people and refusing contact/refunds, we should band together and discontinue orders.

As a customer and someone who's worked with Butch in the past, and talked to him several times, he does not seem to be the type of person who would take your money and run... I'm sure he's struggling to fulfill orders as quickly as he can.

In the beginning his turnaround was nearly instant. His reputation preceded him often, and his backlog increased. I think he got help from family shipping orders while he made cables.

He's not one to rush with all this stuff, and I'm fairly certain that he's not answering because he's working his new job, or fulfilling orders.

This is all based on my past experience with Butch.

most the stuff I've ordered over the years from site I linked to earlier has been custom stuff.

James, I'd probably use greatcables if I needed any custom work done from now on.

My point was that there aren't very many custom places around. The reason I chose Butch was his proximatey to me at the time. I had no idea his wait time would be delayed an additional six weeks past the proposed original two weeks.

Fact of Butch being a one man operation is probably what's slowing him down. Very little capital for parts etc.

I don't know but he may be an older guy who can't handle working a job and building cables?

I don't know but it seems like he's giving folks a raw deal not being willing to issue refunds.

Hope he's OK, and everything works out.

This is all things I have thought about and am now somewhat gun shy to place an order anyplace else, although it is only $50 bucks I dont want to keep taking $50 dollar hits then it starts to affect my economy!!

when i went to the web site to order a custom cable it said that custom orders were suspended as he had to take a job etc....

...i chose bayou based on recommendations from tb and i'm hoping that something can be done before a good reputation takes a dive that cannot be reversed......i have no cash tied up but hopefully those who do can come to some satisfactory resolution soon,as everything i've read here about bayou has been positive....if i did i would be inclined to be patient as these days lots of hard working folks are taking it on the chin right now and simply are not able to turn the corner yet.......

it would be a shame to work hard for so long to build a reputation only to end up lumped into the same category as the doctor bass guy who
seems generally indifferent to his customers.....
