Didn't know if this was appropriate here, but then I thought, "Hey, I'm really only using my guitar for my BASS STUDENTS, so it ought to be fine." Right, mods? :D

Putting this out in a more often-traveled forum to see if I get a few more responses. Hoping to find a guitar community that's as cool as TB (Hey - a guy can dream, right?). :)

There isn't one, and I've been searching for one for years.

There are a few mature guitar forums out there, but they tend to revolve around specific makes of guitar, and as a result have pretty small communities. I've never seen a good forum that focused on the playing of the instrument the way talkbass does.

Lots of theories for why, guitar players are more immature, there's too many of them, every guitarist thinks his forum should be the one true forum.. and so on. Whatever the reason, it's a problem with no solution and I think it's going to stay that way.

My favorite solution would be to create a guitar subforum on talkbass. I know a lot of readers here also play the guitar, seems like an obvious course of action. ;)

yup I've been looking for one as well...Ultimate Guitar is ok as are the Harmony Central forums, but there's nothing like talkbass for guitar.

an interesting idea, perhaps a forum for bass players who double on guitar?

Have to disagree fellas. The Gear Page (Invalid Link Removed) is the best all around forum for guitarists. They even have a bass section, as one of the mods is a bassist.

Also, they don't bash bassists ANYWHERE close to as much as bassists bash guitarists here. :D

That would be great. Especially if it picked up and grew to be its own separate forum(yet still connected to talkbass via account info), with nearly all of the same subsections talkbass has.. Like talkguitar for example. (talkdrums would be cool too..)

The actually is a 'talkguitar' website out there.. but it's a ghost town.

I imagine its genesis was similar to the thought in this thread "hey, talkbass is pretty neat, we need a guitar forum, let's make talkguitar!"

Except they lack one critical ingredient: people.

+1 on that. To my knowledge there just isn't a comparable high quality everything-about-the-instrument "TalkGuitar" equivalent around. Aren't we bass guys special? :D

That being said, some of the more "specific" guitar forums are rather good in their own way, and worth checking out. Even if you have to focus in the "other topics than the very specific thing this forum is about" sections to get to the good stuff!

The Invalid Link Removed is the best I've seen, and sometimes the Invalid Link Removed have some good opinions being debated. No idea about the other specialized forums that surely exist.

TalkBass is unique. Over the years, I've probably joined a dozen forums on all sorts of various topics and hobbies. NONE...I'll repeat that, NONE of them are like TalkBass.

Why? Because the TYPE of people who have common interests in things are different. TalkBass appeals to good humored bassists and musicians of many kinds who are serious about LEARNING but can still joke around.

A guitar sub-section of TB would only attract the same type of people who have FAILED to make the already existing guitar forums a good place to be. All it would do would be to attract those people over here so they can turn TB into a petty, child-infested, flame-war like all those other forums are.

I'm totally against trying to add a guitar (or drums or the kazoo or anything else) section on TB. I really don't think that it's the TB forum that makes this place a great place to be...I think it's the PEOPLE who are here. Bring in the "other" kinds of people and the neighborhood goes to hell. The forum doesn't make the people cool; the people make the forum cool.

TB is FULL of VERY experienced, knowlegable musicians who are more than willing to share experiences and advice to those who want it. Sure, there's a little banter and light-weight flamming now and again--but it's all in fun and when someone starts getting too upset about stuff, TB'ers know when to cool off, back away, and leave a guy alone (or apologize). In the end, the motive is helpfulness. In almost 2 years on the guitar forums, I NEVER saw that kind of "brotherhood" or courtesty! I think it's a dominant personality trait that goes along with the kind of people who actually ENJOY playing a SUPPORTING instrument--NOT the lead instrument. You can't just try to create, force, or demand a helpful/supportive personality in someone who doesn't already have it. If they had it, they'd have picked up supportive role instrument.

Is anyone getting my point? Can you track this or am I confusing someone.

Is da guitarman da debil? NO
Are ALL guitarists pompous, wankmiesters? Not by a long shot!
However, there are enough of them on the internet to ruin a forum in a short time. That's why nearly all the guitar forums out there suck! They were all started with good intentions...but the PEOPLE make the neighborhood. You have to start with the TYPE of people how are naturally ready to help and support. The egocentric "rock stars" of the world are NOT that type of people.

TB is a brotherhood (and sisterhood for our lady bassists here). The other places are NOT.

Sorry if I offended anyone but that's my view on it.

P.S. I'm sure a guitarist who comes on here and posts a question or comment from a legitimate angle of trying to understanding music, band dynamics, or the music biz will be received with the same respect that we pay the bassists around here. Sorry guitarists, stereotypes exist for a reason and unfortunately you have a slight uphill climb to earn your stripes around here. TB is a place for musicians so even a guitarist can have a brotherhood here with us. It's all in your presentation.

In my opinion there is one guitar forum that is like TB - The Fender Discussion Page (the FDP). Like TB, it's a well-run, well-moderated forum full of very knowledgable people who are only too willing to help whenever called upon. I've been a member there for about five years now and I've learned so much about guitars and guitar playing, just like I've learned so much about bass from the TB Forum. To my way of thinking both the TB and FDP are sister forums! As a matter of fact there are quite a few members who belong to both forums - a bit of "cross-pollination" is always a good thing!:)

Frozen, I understand what you're saying, and I disagree. A guitar subforum would be cool, because of the number of multi instrumentalists already here, the foundation of the patronage would be set, and the level of moderation or self moderation would already be in effect.

However, I agree that we oughtn't have a guitar forum here, because we're TalkBASS, not TalkMUSIC. Now, I wouldn't be opposed to TB being the foundation for a wider TalkMusic network of sites, but I don't feel that Guitar ought be given its own subforum.

If one were to exist, however, I would likely lurk and post in there from time to time. I am not violently opposed to the idea, just don't agree with it.
