Disappointed with warmoth!

Well I just called warmoth to ask about my fenderbird project. So, I wanted to make it neck through so it would be more like a Thunderbird. Another thing I wanted to do was roman numeral inlays.


The guy said they do not do NT or custom inlays on bass... Man that was almost my whole project!!! :hmm:

Who else could do this project other than warmoth???

Hi Tommy,

All Warmoth guitars and basses are bolt on design. You may need to look for a small custom shop for your inlay work. Michael Dolan is the only guy that comes to mind. Be aware, highly custom work is likely to come with custom prices.

As far as your last sentence.... Smells like a troll....

And you definitely cant expect this to be cheap. Warmoth is great, the neck on my P is awesome, some seriously figured Maple.

The neck you want/expect is not going to come easily..

And Tommy isnt a troll guys, I can back him up.

You seem unclear on the concept. Warmoth makes parts and you put them together yourself or have someone else do it. They don't do any assembly.

Tommy is a cool dude no troll.

BUT

They dont do that stuff dude. I order a pick ups from there and i called to ask about them and the guy walked me through wiring them , really nice service.

What your asking for is a custom job,

I didn't get "Troll", he didn't say "they suck" just - I'm disappointed, they don't do what I would like to have done, so who else can I use?

I know Carvin sells "neck through" blanks and you could add your own body wings.
Maybe some other factories do - I don't know.
Other than that, you're paying a luthier to build you a custom.

There are inlay threads - if you search, you can find luthiers who do custom inlay.

Go to town, have it built your way - but it won't be a "simple parts bass" and a "bass parts" company won't be able to do it for you.

To the OP:
Just buy a Thunderbird if you really want a neck thru.
A FenderBird is the combination of a Gibson (or custom ) body and pickups + a Fender neck bolted on.

If you look at Warmoth's site it is readily apparent that they only do bodies and necks for bolt-on applications (which is what a Fenderbird is as TBird pointed out). Once I emailed Warmoth about whether they made replacement necks for Fenders with 22-frets. They didn't and, as far as I know, still don't, but it's not like they are obliged to, I'm sure if they did it would comprise something like 1% of their business, not worth their while. Warmoth doesn't owe you a particular model or part.

No offense to the OP, but i totally bursted out laughing when i read the post...

Where did you ever get the idea that Warmoth was doing neck throughs??? Have you ever seen one anywhere?

Warmoth makes bolt necks to Fender specs. Also, it violates their agreement with Fender if they were to sell you an assembled neck and body.

I can understand your dissapointment about the inlays, but you can't say you're dissapointed in Warmoth because they don't drastically alter their business practices and designs to make you a neck through.

why don't you call a local or prominent internet luthier and have them build what you want? Warmoth isn't the endall and be all of bass parts. The only thing that makes them a "custom" shop, is the ability to mix and match necks and bodies, not that they will one off something for you.

Why are you disappointed? Warmoth specializes in J and P style basses, and nowhere on their website does it suggest they make neck-through basses. They sell individual necks and bodies, not neck-through basses.
