There is absolutely no reason to go with a 4x12 specifically for metal.Nothing special about a 4x12 or an 8x10 or whatever.
You should go with the cab you like the best after trying a bunch out and researching - not pick a form factor and settle on that.
The guy is obviously interested in information on 4x12's, why post some generic and pointless b.s. about "trying out all of the cabs within a 1000 mile radius and pick the one you like"? That doesn't help him to narrow it down since he probably doesn't live next to every bass cab manufacturer in the world. :scowl:
I didn't get the impression he was choosing a 4x12 (or 8x10) specifically because everyone else is doing it either. I'm only pushing the Aguilar GS412 because I honestly think it's the best cabinet out there - volume, great tone, easier to move than most 4x10's, durable, and it just looks sweet. Which are absolutely perfect reasons to go with it specifically for metal!![]()
Mesa makes a 4x12 bass cab and it's loaded with Neodynium speakers. Every Mesa cab I've played through has blown me away and the brand new ones are no exception.
