Home recording for "Dummies"

I have posted a couple of times trying to get information on home recording.
but got no support. Guess maybe I wasnt asking the right question. So I will try this one:

Can anybody recommend a read that would help someone just learning about home recording? I have looked at a few, but the ones I have seen are using technical jargon that I dont understand. Guess what I am looking for is an Idiots guide to mixing, recording techniques, mic placement, what all those knobs are for, etc..

there is always the book: home recording for dummies. It was pretty good, and kept things basic. Check your local library, mine had at least five books. Including the Guerrilla book, aimed at getting it done without spending tons of dough.

You are going to spend tons of hours, no getting around that. And its a totally different thing from playing music, a whole new job to learn.

Isolation for everything is the big challenge, you don't want your scratch guitar track in your drum mix, or things like that.

Keep it simple is the basic rule.

Good luck

If you're just lookin to goof off a bit and get some ideas down, I'd use this:

There's a whole site dedicated to "microrecorders" like this and, one of the forums is for posting MP3s made on the things. I was blown away by the quality. Actually a really cool piece of hardware and the learning curve is no where near as steep as it is for Cubase, Pro Tools, REAPER (what I use now), etc. I use REAPER right now, for the VST support (VST = Virtual Studio Technology...very cool stuff but walk before you run...lol) but, for getting ideas down and the less intensive stuff, I am getting one of these asap.

Just a thought.
