What was your first amp (old guys only)

Silvertone 8", ....6 months later got my "big separate head and cab" Silvertone 2x12" w/spring reverb which got fairly good radio station reception and ate a steady diet of Slo-Blo fuses.

Both from Sears.........and guitarists are falling over each other to get that old crap now :confused:

Had an EMC, too - 450 SS watts through 3-15"s and 30ft. of folded horn in a reverse-W enclosure.......my mother literally cried when I brought iit home, so I knew I loved it. :D

I tried a a guy's "US map" National through his National amp w/reverb in the late 60's........it sounded quite fine.

ca 1985, a used Peavey something (TNT?) I think it was 120 or 150 Watts and had a 15" speaker. I remember it was heavy as h*ll, I had to lug it up and down a narrow spiral staircase every time at out first rehearsal place.

My dad's old Silvertone white face solid state amp with a homemade 2x15 cabinet with Altec speakers. The first amp I bought was an early '70's Bassman 100 head/4x12 cabinet setup. Sweet, buttery tube tone; just not loud enough on stage. This was about 1979. WHEW! I'm old!

How old do I have to be?

Fender bought out Sunn, I think in the early '80s. They first released a budget line that was nothing like the old Sunns. My first amp was a Sunn SB160 15" combo. It was made of particle board and had plastic corners. It did have a parametric eq, but I don't miss that amp at all. I didn't know much about tone back then -- I bought it because it looked big and loud.

It got stolen at school, which turned out to be a good thing. With the insurance money I got a '69 Sunn Sorado and a 2x12 cab w/ Jensens in it. Whooppee!

Roland Cube 40. Followed up with a 200W Woodson head and Acoustic cab with a 15 and a 12. 12 was missing and so I had a 12" port! Funny story about that cab; it became infested with roaches after keeping it at my guitar player's dump for about a month! I used half a can of raid on that thing. Really though, it sounded pretty good.

A Silvertone piggy-back with tiny ss head and single 15 (or was it a 12?). Man, it sucked. I stepped up shortly thereafter to a Fender Bassman silver face with the head that screwed onto the cab. I think they later called these "Bassman 50's." It also sucked for volume but had good tone. Late sixties. And through those amps I struggled with a Univox, a Hagstrom 8 string and a Hofner Beatle bass. Man, it's a wonder I stuck with it! The good ol'/bad ol' dayz...

I had one of the Fender Bassman (Bassman 50 IIRC), wasn't quite loud enough, but sounded good. Years ago, a guitar player made me an offer I couldn't refuse for it. I have a Peavey TNT 100 that I bought in the early seventies; Still works, has the original speaker, but never sounded that great. Next was an Acoustic 140 head and the 106 cabinet (2x15). I gave the head away but I still have the cabinet.

A Univox amp-had a 15" speaker, and all the controls were in the back. I think I threw that thing off a cliff once in frustration.
My first real amp was a Bassman 10, bought in 1983. I liked that one actually; wish I still had it.

My first combo was TNT-130 that I bought few years ago.. It's 1984 model, still going strong after almost 20 years :)

I think I might donate it to museum or something in 2009 :D

I was so young and dumb then (about 1967 - '68) that I didn't even know what I really had. It was a Vox combo amp, with tubes. It stood about waist high and had its own little cart to move it around with. I have no idea of a model number, wattage, or number/size of the speakers... but it sounded great. Wish I still had it!

Chuck I bet you wish you still had that Bassman 410. I wish I had it even more. I started playing bass about 9 years ago (converted guitar man, booooo). I won't even go into how many great amps and guitars I had and sold for cheap. George Gurin (I think that's how you spell it) single handed drove the prices out of this world. Some were lucky or smart enough to keep their 60's stuff. My first guitar amp was a Sears Silver tone looked like it was right out of Flash Gordon. (black and white)

My first bass amp was a used Peavey TNT. Since then I've had to many to list.
