didn't justin meldal-johnsen play the bass on the soundtrack for ocean's 11? i could swear he said he did. he'd probably be interested to see this, eh? cool riff.

Thanks! That's a 51 P bass clone I made for a customer. She's getting a pickguard installed tomorrow. The pickup is a Seymour Duncan SCPB-2. Wiring is standard. I'm plugging directly into my audio interface, and recording in Cubase. I applied some EQ and compression with plugins.

i've used the sd scpb3, and liked it.

as close as i have to that now is a G&L SB1-J with one massive single coil
and a 1972 Tele with a DarkStar replacement..but, it has labella tapewounds on it.

I wonder if it would be a little easier to play down closer to the nut on the 2nd string, second fret and just play open notes. I don't have my bass readily available so I can't say but playing open notes to me is like having a 6th finger sometimes.

Great job! I really, really like:
1) that it's easy to identify which finger you're using on the frets (nice camera distance/angle and finger articulation),
2) that you seem to think the way I do in terms of first identifying the
chord and then identifying the notes as part of the chord (e.g. 1, 3, 5, passing tone, etc.),
3) your use of one finger per fret,
4) that you've edited it down for conciseness (never a dull moment),
5) it was a great tune worthy of a bass video.

That is one of the best examples I have seen of making a bass playing
video. This is a fine demonstration for anybody. You should make more.

I try to make videos that I would want to watch. There are tons of great bass videos on YouTube, by bassists MUCH better than me. But I always wished they would explain what they are playing and why. So that's what I decided to do. Glad you dig it.

Hey nice vids, I agree what you say.. there's tons of vids out there, but yet.. I'm losing that sense of soul.. ya know??

U got soul.. simple melodies, good song selection.. and you rock the pentatonic. I love the pentatonic sound with all those passing chromatic notes.

This is good lesson for the timing, knowing when "not" to play a note. Esp that B.Marley track.
