It would be very useful for playing in church, or other situations where you might need to quickly switch between fast and slow songs without needing to switch basses. I once built a double-neck for just that purpose. This just the next step in the evolution.
So this is basically like the Chapman NS? And you should chuck a thread in the luthier corner as well, they'd like to see that stuff, I bet.

holy hell, you're an evil genus. That sounds amazing. Like a fretless/fretted double neck with the necks squished together.. I'd buy two!!
That's a good idea. I've wanted to try it, but I'm not yet set up to build basses. Ooooh I can't wait until I am......so many builds to complete....
If you want to make the effort, you can shift the scales of the two "sub-basses", so that you have a fairly consistent finger position all the way across the neck, at least up to the octave, like this one:
Actually, you could probably improve on this. If you kept the staggered nut/zero fret idea, but lengthened the scale on the fretless a bit, you might be able to get a nice line-up all the way up the fingerboard.

Badass i want this, i have never played any bass with more then 4 strings so i dunno if i could play a neck that wide.

Nice job matching the grain on the body. It looks very fluid. Will be interesting to see this one come together.

I love working with swamp ash. When I can't find a really big piece, I always make it a point to match the grain. Thanks for noticing
I installed the 1/2 fret markers. I used some thin binding material. I superglue coated the fretboard. Now I'm installing the 1/2 frets. I think the superglue brings out the grain nicely.
