58 jazzmaster bass?

hello everyone...i am in the process of buying a vintage fender jazz and i had a few questions...the bass in question is a 58 fender jazzmaster V..he said its basically a jazz bass...i didnt think there were jazz basses that early on and ive been searching for 2 days and cant seem to find anything at all even close to what he described...he said he had a friend run the serial num and its def a 58....any thoughts? thanks-joep
 
i dont think the old guy is lying to me as he got his info elsewhere about the dates ect...im sure this is just a 68 fender jazz bass....he got it new in 70 and has had it since...at the price im getting it for its worth it either way..i know for a fact its an original vintage jazz...haha i just wish i knew exactly what it was...im getting it on the 5th so ill post pics and serials and see if anyone can help me id this thing...thanks guys..-joep

I think this bass became 10 years younger, and the model name changed, between your two posts.
