For sale Heartfield DR6C Neck Through MIJ

For sale is my Heartfiled DR-6C six-string bass with NT construction with tobacco stained flamed maple top and gold hardware. These were made in Japan by Fender in the late eighties through the early nineties and were very much ahead of their time. This bass is an earlier build from 1989 and in my personal opinion, the best factory-production 6 string ever made. Fun fact: Steve Bailey was an early endorsing player of this model.

These basses have some amazing features which made them a high priced and premium product in the Fender line up when they were introduced. In addition to the exceptional Japanese build quality, these basses feature a proprietary "Tri-Lam" neck in which a thin layer of graphite is sandwiched between the neck and fingerboard. This was to provide some of the clarity and response of graphite eliminating dead spots.

Additionally, the stock pickups are made by EMG and the electronics are active with the option of engaging a Q-filter. Disengaged, the tone knob functions as a regular tone knob. Engaged, the tone knob acts as a frequency sweep making this instrument a poor-man's alembic. Also featured is an XLR output which comes in quite handy in the studio and in live situations when running straight into the front of house.

As for specs, these basses have a comfortable 17mm string spacing, 19.7" radius and a 33.858" scale (860mm instead of 864mm for an even 34") with 24 frets on a rosewood fingerboard. Nut width is about 2.2" making the 17mm string spacing feel deceptively generous.

Everything on the bass is original except the knobs and the strap buttons which were replaced with Dunlop Dual Design buttons.

This bass is in overall good condition but does show a little bit of honest player wear here and there as would be expected with an instrument that is 36 years old. I have taken a lot of photographs and close ups of various dings and knicks and the like. Feel free to ask any questions about anything you see and be assured that this bass in built like a tank.

I am shipping this is a beaten up but period-correct Squier hard shell case. The case is missing feet and some plastic as shown but is otherwise intact and still protects this bass like a champ.
